  • Patent number: 7564381
Abstract: A method for compressing information is provided that includes receiving a plurality of bits associated with a communications flow and determining if a match exists between the plurality of bits and a selected one of a plurality of bit patterns. A header bit segment that corresponds to the selected bit pattern may be communicated in place of the plurality of bits associated with the communications flow.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: July 21, 2009
    Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.

  • Patent number: 7372843
Abstract: A method for compressing data is provided that includes receiving a communications flow communicated by a mobile station and communicating with a proxy element in order to determine if an incoming packet is associated with an internet protocol (IP). The method also includes performing a mapping between a non-IP based protocol associated with the incoming packet and an IP protocol in cases where the incoming packet is non-IP based in order to generate an IP compatible packet to be processed by a forwarding path element and communicated to a next destination.

  • Patent number: 7362721
Abstract: An apparatus for providing fault and error tolerance in a network environment is provided that includes an aggregation node associated with a base station controller and operable to receive a packet that includes an error. A portion of the packet is discarded, the packet being associated with a communications flow. The aggregation node being further operable to perform a selected one of injecting a subframe into the communications flow and playing one or more previous frame bits from a frame memory in response to the error.

  • Patent number: 7283483
Abstract: Transmitting packets in a frame includes receiving the packets. Delay constraints are established, where each delay constraint is associated with a packet. Frame departure times of the frames are predicted, where the frames include the packets. A packet departure time is determined for each packet in accordance with the frame departure time of the frame that includes the packet. An order of the packets is determined using the delay constraints and the packet departure times. The packets are placed in the order, and the frames are formed from the ordered packets.

  • Patent number: 6961774
Abstract: A system for performing a hand-off between two IP core networks in the wireless domain includes a source mobility control function (MCF) within a source IP core network that is coupled to a source access network providing service to a mobile unit. The source MCF is coupled to a source bearer path gateway (BPGW) within the source IP core network. The source BPGW communicates bearer traffic associated with the mobile unit between the source access network and a public switched telephone network (PSTN) gateway within the source IP core network. The PSTN gateway communicates the bearer traffic between the source BPGW and a PSTN coupled to the source IP core network. The source MCF is functionally separate from a call agent (CA) within the source IP core network. The CA is also coupled to the source BPGW.

  • Patent number: 6108800
Abstract: A method and apparatus for analyzing the performance of an information system which provides useful assessments of performance that apply to an aggregate of user nodes in the information system. The method and apparatus may be embodied in a performance analyzer which bases an assessment of the performance of the information system on a set of measurements of a performance parameter for each of the user nodes. The measurements in raw form apply to individual ones of the user nodes. The performance analyzer determines a set of filtered measurements by removing at least one type of variability in the measurements. The performance analyzer then determines a representative performance indication in response to the filtered measurements such that the representative performance indication applies to an aggregate of the user nodes.

  • Patent number: 5913041
Abstract: A method and system of monitoring throughput of a data access system includes logging each transfer of data from a content server to a remote site, with each log entry including information indicative of transfer size, date, times, source and destination. The method includes accessing the log information in a passive and non-intrusive manner to evaluate the performance of transfers to a selected subset of the remote sites. In another embodiment, the performance evaluation is implemented for system resource allocation planning. In the preferred embodiment, the data access system is a broadband data system and the content servers utilize Internet applications. Also in the preferred embodiment, the data throughput is measured by the transfer rate of useful data, rather than all data including retransmissions.
