  • Publication number: 20240400815
Abstract: Compositions which are curable by, for example, exposure to radiation to form useful articles such as three-dimensionally printed objects are prepared using multistage polymers, polymerizing organic substances and (meth)acrylic polymers. The multistage polymer is effective to toughen and impact modify the cured articles, yet the compositions prior to curing are relatively low in viscosity and agglomerate content even at high loadings of multistage polymer.
    Type: Application
    Filed: August 12, 2024
    Publication date: December 5, 2024

  • Patent number: 11548964
Abstract: One-part, curable compositions that have a soft feel when applied as a coating/film and cured, may include a) at least one isocyanurate tri(meth)acrylate or derivative thereof; and at least one of components b)-e), wherein: b) is at least one urethane diacrylate; c) is at least one monofunctional or difunctional reactive diluent; d) is at least one solvent; and e) is additives. The one-part, curable compositions are advantageous with respect to softness and tailorability of softness as well as other properties such as mar resistance, abrasion resistance, stain resistance and chemical resistance. Due to their advantageous properties, embodiments of the one-part, curable compositions described herein are viable for a wide range of coating applications including automotives, aeronautics, cosmetics, small appliances, packaging and consumer electronics. Methods of making and using the one-part, curable are also described herein.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 2, 2016
Date of Patent: January 10, 2023
Inventors: Lisa M. Spagnola, Jeffrey A. Klang, Manjuli Gupta, Xavier Drujon
  • Patent number: 11111410
Abstract: Coatings having a favorable combination of “soft touch” characteristics and durability are obtained by dual curing compositions containing free radical-curable ethylenically unsaturated compound(s), polyol(s) and polyisocyanate(s).
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 21, 2017
Date of Patent: September 7, 2021

  • Publication number: 20200102472
Abstract: “Soft feel” coatings are obtained by curing a coating composition containing a) at least one (meth)acrylate-functionalized oxetane/oxolane oligomer such as a (meth)acrylate-functionalized polytetramethylene ether, b) at least one radiation-curable compound (other than (meth)acrylate-functionalized oxetane/oxolane oligomer) and c) at least one surface conditioner additive selected from the group consisting of particulate surface modification agents and slip additives. As a consequence of containing (meth)acrylate-functionalized oxetane/oxolane oligomer, the coating composition has advantageously low viscosity and yet is capable of providing a cured coating having excellent haptic properties.

  • Publication number: 20200024471
Abstract: “Soft feel” coatings having improved haptic qualities are obtained by curing a coating composition containing at least one radiation-curable compound, at least one photoinitiator, at least one surface conditioner additive selected from the group consisting of particulate surface modification agents slip additives using a multistage curing procedure, involving exposing the coating composition to a long wavelength ultraviolet radiation source and then a short wavelength ultraviolet radiation source.
