  • Patent number: 9909440
Abstract: A seal for a turbomachine is disclosed. The seal assembly includes a rotatable shaft having a stepped outer circumferential surface that defines one or more annular protrusions axially-spaced thereon. A seal is radially-offset from the rotatable shaft and has one or more annular recesses that extend radially-outward from the inner circumferential surface of the seal. A plurality of holes are defined in both the inner circumferential surface and the one or more annular recesses of the seal, the one or more annular recesses being axially-spaced from each other and configured to receive the one or more annular protrusions in an interlocking fit.

  • Patent number: 8596954
Abstract: A compressor is disclosed having a shaft seal assembly and system that allows a high-pressure compressor to settle-out at a lower pressure level during shutdown. The seal assembly may be disposed about a portion of the shaft and define a blow-down seal chamber, the seal assembly including one or more gas seals in fluid communication with the blow-down seal chamber. A blow-down line is communicably coupled to the blow-down seal chamber to reference the blow-down seal chamber to a low pressure reference, such as a separate centrifugal compressor, or the like. Referencing the blow-down seal chamber to the low pressure reference reduces the required sealing pressure of the one or more gas seals. A valve may be disposed in the blow-down line and configured to regulate a flow of process gas leakage through the blow-down line.

  • Patent number: 6395860
Abstract: The polyisocyanate ester compound is a branched material having at least two ester linkages, at least four urethane linkages further from the center of the compound compared to the ester linkages, and at least one terminal isocyanate group for each urethane linkage, which isocyanate group may be blocked. The compound can be prepared by first by reacting a polyol compound having at least two hydroxyl groups with a carboxylic acid compound having one carboxylic acid group and at least two hydroxyl groups to form a hydroxyl-functional ester product. The hydroxyl-functional ester product is then reacted with a polyisocyanate compound in which the isocyanate groups have different reactivities. The reaction with the polyisocyanate compound is carried out under conditions so that only one of the isocyanate groups is substantially reactive with the hydroxyl groups of the ester product of the first stage.
