Abstract: A method and system for providing information management of data from hosted services receives information management policies for a hosted account of a hosted service, requests data associated with the hosted account from the hosted service, receives data associated with the hosted account from the hosted service, and provides a preview version of the received data to a computing device. In some examples, the system indexes the received data to associate the received data with a user of an information management system, and/or provides index information related to the received data to the computing device.

Abstract: Techniques for providing shared access to, e.g., a small computer system interface (SCSI) storage device in a computer network include providing an operational mode on SCSI interfaces with a first media agent and a second media agent such that, in response to inquiry messages on the SCSI interfaces, the SCSI storage device appears as a SCSI target device to the first media agent and the second media agent and mapping data operations between the first media agent and the SCSI storage device and the second media agent and the SCSI storage device to logically unique channel numbers for the first media agent and the second media agent to perform data storage operations over their respective SCSI interfaces by concurrently sharing the SCSI storage device.

Abstract: A system according to certain aspects may include a secondary storage controller computer configured to: in response to a first instruction to obtain a first secondary copy of a first data set from a secondary storage device(s), the first instruction associated with a first restore operation: instantiate a first restore thread on a processor of the secondary storage controller computer; using the first restore thread, retrieve the first secondary copy from the secondary storage device(s); and forward the retrieved first secondary copy to a primary storage subsystem for storage; and in response to a second instruction to obtain a second secondary copy of a second data set from the secondary storage device(s), the second instruction associated with a second restore operation: using the first restore thread, retrieve the second secondary copy from the secondary storage device(s); and forward the retrieved second secondary copy to the primary storage subsystem for storage.

Abstract: According to certain aspects, a method can include receiving an indication that a restoration of a deduplication database using a secondary copy of a file associated with a secondary copy job is complete; retrieving a first data fingerprint from a data storage database, wherein the first data fingerprint is associated with the secondary copy job used to restore the deduplication database; retrieving a second data fingerprint from a deduplication database media agent, wherein the second data fingerprint is associated with the secondary copy job used to restore the deduplication database; comparing the first data fingerprint with the second data fingerprint to determine whether the first data fingerprint and the second data fingerprint match; and transmitting an instruction to the deduplication database media agent to rebuild the restored deduplication database in response to a determination that the first data fingerprint and the second data fingerprint do not match.

Abstract: A system according to certain embodiments associates a signature value corresponding to a data block with one or more data blocks and a reference to the data block to form a signature/data word corresponding to the data block. The system further logically organizes the signature/data words into a plurality of files each comprising at least one signature/data word such that the signature values are embedded in the respective file. The system according to certain embodiments reads a previously stored signature value corresponding to a respective data block for sending from a backup storage system having at least one memory device to a secondary storage system.

Abstract: According to various embodiments, systems and methods are provided that relate to shared access to Storage Area Networks (SAN) devices. In one embodiment, a Storage Area Network (SAN) host is provided, comprising: a server component: a first host bus adapter configured to be connected to a SAN client over a first SAN; a second host bus adapter configured to be connected to a SAN storage device over a second SAN; and wherein the server component is configured to manage a data block on the SAN storage device, receive a storage operation request from the SAN client through the first host bus adapter, and in response to the storage operation request, perform a storage operation on the data block, the storage operation being performed over the second SAN through the second host bus adapter.

Abstract: The disclosed techniques that can use deduplication information on a source computer platform to improve the process of performing data backups or restoration from/to the computer platform. In one example aspect, a data backup operation can re-use some of the work already done by a source computer's deduplication system. For example, a storage operation could read a deduplication database on the source computer platform to determine the duplicativeness of a given data chunk being transferred to a backup storage system, without having to perform computations such as data chunk hashing and comparison with previously generated hashes. The technique may additionally or alternatively reuse hashes generated by the source computer during deduplication of the data file on the source computer's file system during deduplication at the external backup storage system.

Abstract: A high availability distributed, deduplicated storage system according to certain embodiments is arranged to include multiple deduplication database media agents. The deduplication database media agents store signatures of data blocks stored in secondary storage. In addition, the deduplication database media agents are configured as failover deduplication database media agents in the event that one of the deduplication database media agents becomes unavailable.

Abstract: An information management system can modify working copies of database entries residing in a local database of a secondary storage computing device in response to instructions to modify the database entries residing in a deduplication database. If the working copy does not already reside in the local database, a copy of the database entry, or portion thereof, from the deduplication database can be used to generate the working copy. Based on a desired policy, the working copies in the local database can be merged with the actual database entries in the deduplication database.

Abstract: A content alignment system according to certain embodiments aligns a sliding window at the beginning of a data segment. The content alignment system performs a block alignment function on the data within the sliding window. A deduplication block is established if the output of the block alignment function meets a predetermined criteria. At least part of a gap is established if the output of the block alignment function does not meet the predetermined criteria. The predetermined criteria is changed if a threshold number of outputs fail to meet the predetermined criteria.

The system may check various factors or parameters relating to a snapshot storage policy to verify whether the storage policy will work at runtime without actually executing the policy. Some examples of factors can include: availability of primary storage devices for which a snapshot should be obtained, availability of secondary storage devices, license availability for snapshot software, user credentials for connecting to primary and/or second storage devices, available storage capacity, connectivity to storage devices, etc. The system may also check whether a particular system configuration is supported in connection with snapshot operations. The result of the determination can be provided in the form of a report summarizing any problems found with the snapshot storage policy.

For example, the secondary storage computing device receives a storage operation request from one or more of the other secondary storage computing devices, such as a request to create a snapshot of client data. Abstract: Data storage operations, including content-indexing, containerized deduplication, and policy-driven storage, are performed within a cloud environment. The systems support a variety of clients and cloud storage sites that may connect to the system in a cloud environment that requires data transfer over wide area networks, such as the Internet, which may have appreciable latency and/or packet loss, using various network protocols, including HTTP and FTP. Methods are disclosed for content indexing data stored within a cloud environment to facilitate later searching, including collaborative searching. Methods are also disclosed for performing containerized deduplication to reduce the strain on a system namespace, effectuate cost savings, etc. Methods are disclosed for identifying suitable storage locations, including suitable cloud storage sites, for data files subject to a storage policy.
