  • Publication number: 20080032633
Abstract: A feedback method in which a notification is received that a transmitting device has scheduled a transmission of data to the receiving device. Antenna feedback is generated in response to receipt of the notification. The antenna feedback is sent to the transmitting device. • Patent number: 7315523
Abstract: A method and apparatus for neighbor assisted combining for localized multicast services. User equipment is sent a signal indicating the relationship between cells with respect to serving cells transmitting a common multicast transmission. At least a portion of the common multicast transmission is transmitted on the same resource on each serving cell. • Publication number: 20070250751
Abstract: During operation each ACK/NAK feedback (200) comprises two fields (201-204). Each field corresponds to the status of previously-received data (e.g., slot, frame, TTI, . . . , etc.). In a first embodiment, field 1 corresponds to the current received data status, while field 2 corresponds to the previous received data status if a NAK misinterpretation error occurs. If the receiver detects no misinterpretation error, the second field is simply left blank. Because each ACK/NAK feedback will comprise the reception status of currently received data, and prior-received data, a transmitter has two chances to receive the NAK/ACK if a NAK misinterpretation error occurs.

  • Publication number: 20070117579
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing adaptive bearer configuration for MBMS delivery is disclosed. A first aspect of the present disclosure is a method of operating a wireless infrastructure entity (103) wherein a common radio resource (303) is allocated for receiving a response from at least one mobile station (109). A request message, similar to a request for counting, is broadcast to all mobile stations (109) within a coverage area (105. If at least one mobile station (109) responds to the request, PTM transmission mode will be used for MBMS delivery within the given coverage area (105). If more than one mobile station (109) within the coverage area (105) responds to the request, then all the responses will be over the common radio resource (303). The total number of responses to the request message may be limited by providing a probability factor within the request message.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing adaptive bearer configuration for MBMS delivery is disclosed. A first aspect of the present disclosure is a method of operating a wireless infrastructure entity (103) wherein a plurality of common radio resources (303) are allocated for receiving combined responses from a plurality of mobile stations (109). A request message, similar to a request for counting, is broadcast to all mobile stations (109) within a coverage area (105) and may indicate a range, for example a signal-to-noise-and-interference ratio range. Mobile stations (109) responding to the request, use specific resources (303) corresponding to respective range values. The infrastructure (103) may use the received information to determine a modulation and coding scheme for PTM broadcast. The total number of responses to the request message may be limited by providing a probability factor within the request message.

  • Publication number: 20070081448
Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing partially coherent Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) transmissions within a multi-carrier communication system is provided herein. During operation similar information bits enter each base station (401, 402). The information bits are encoded by each base station to produce a plurality of systematic bits and parity check bits. Each base station produces a set of similar systematic/parity bits and dissimilar systematic/parity bits. The similar bits are modulated and transmitted using the same resource elements. The remaining symbols are transmitted on any resource elements. Thus the transmissions from multiple base stations are received by the UE partially coherently. Since the same fraction of systematic bits are transmitted from each base station, the transmissions are homogeneous and hence can be received and decoded equally well in any cell are outside the handover region (i.e. closer to base station).

  • Publication number: 20070081481
Abstract: A method and apparatus for neighbor assisted combining for localized multicast services. Cells are determined in which user equipment resides that desire a common multicast service. At least one serving cell for transmitting the common multicast service is selected based on the determination. At least one extended serving cell is selected from at least one serving cell neighbor cell which does not have user equipment that desires the common multicast service, the extended serving cell influencing transmissions on the serving cell. The common multicast service is transmitted on the selected at least one serving cell.

  • Publication number: 20070070880
Abstract: A method and apparatus for notifying a communication device (108, 110) of an allocation of data within a multiplexed message (200) is provided. The method includes grouping the data of an at least one wireless communication device (108, 110) into the multiplexed message, dividing the multiplexed message into at least one subgroup (202-210) wherein each subgroup has at least one tone (212-224) and is within the message, assigning the wireless device one of the at lest one subgroups, and notifying the wireless communication device of the assigned subgroup with an identification sequence (302) used to identify the wireless communication device within the multiplexed message, a first index (306) to identify when the assigned subgroup includes new data for the wireless communication device and a second index (304) to identify which subgroup within the multiplexed message contains data for the wireless communication device.

  • Publication number: 20070009064
Abstract: A first data stream (101) to be transmitted is modulated (102) using quadrature phase shift keyed modulation to provide corresponding first data symbols. Upon determining (102) that at least a second data stream should also be transmitted (which second data stream is discrete with respect to the first data stream), that second data stream is modulated (105) using quadrature phase shift keyed modulation to provide corresponding second data symbols. The first and second data symbols are then combined (106) to provide resultant combined symbols and those combined symbols are then transmitted (107).

  • Patent number: 7058407
Abstract: A controller (102) in a fixed network of a wireless data communication system (100) transmits an indication that a diversity transmission of the information stream is available. When predetermined capabilities of a user equipment (112) and the fixed network are sufficient to allow soft combining of a primary transmission and the diversity transmission of bits of the information stream in the user equipment, the controller further transmits primary and diversity transmissions in a manner that facilitates soft combining in the user equipment, and transmits a group identity of the information stream to indicate that the information stream is in the primary and diversity transmissions.

  • Publication number: 20060098676
Abstract: Separate Radio Network Controllers (11 and 13) exchange (31) neighboring cell information between one another. This information is used (32), in turn, to facilitate macrodiversity reception of multicast content. By one approach, a receiver node (16) receives this neighboring cell information which facilitates compatible reception of corresponding multicast content. The receiver node uses differing synchronization techniques (43 and 44) depending upon whether or not the multicast content is sourced by base stations that share a common Radio Network Controller. Pursuant to one technique having particular use when the base stations do not share a common Radio Network Controller, the receiver node compares the bearer content of at least one selected data block from one received multicast stream with the bearer content of a selected data block from another multicast stream.

  • Patent number: 6631127
Abstract: A method 600 of selecting an ARQ method for retransmitting a data frame based on an accumulated signal to noise ratio (SNR) of systematic bits in the data frame at a receiving unit 508. The sending unit 500 tracks the accumulated SNR of systematic bits by using channel SNR measurement reports sent by the receiving unit 508. The method utilizes Chase combining of re-transmitted systematic bits (via Partial incremental redundancy transmissions) until the accumulated SNR of the systematic bits has reached a suitable value, and then switches to sending only parity bits (via Full incremental redundancy) in retransmissions. In addition, the method alters the allocation of resources, such as code power, to provide only that necessary for successful decoding of the transmitted frame. The sending unit 500 informs the receiving unit 508 of the type of transmission, number of the transmission and/or resource allocation associated with the data frame.
