  • Patent number: 7735470
Abstract: A throttle control cartridge has a circuit board carrying a Hall-effect sensor, the position of which is fixed in a housing carrying a cam. A shaft carrying a magnet is rotatably and translatably disposed with respect to the housing and carries a cam follower that engages the cam and translates the shaft with respect to the housing when the shaft is rotated with respect to the housing in at least one of two opposed angular directions. The cam and the cam follower have at least first and second pairs of cam surfaces in which a first cam surface is disposed at a different cam or helix angle then the second cam surface. A redundant stop is cooperatively formed between the cam follower and splines on the shaft to limit axial translation of the cam follower in one direction of rotation of the shaft relative to the housing.

  • Patent number: 6894485
Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for sensing the position of a point of contact through use of a sensor having a movable element, disposed between a sensing element and a source of magnetic flux, and having an aperture therein for allowing a portion of the magnetic flux from the source of magnetic flux to pass through the aperture and impinge on the sensing element. The aperture may have various shapes to provide a desired linear or non-linear relationship between the position of the movable element and the intensity of the flux that passes through the aperture and impinges on the sensing element for a given position of the movable element.

  • Publication number: 20050050970
Abstract: A cap assembly (10) is used during the assembly of a sensor (22) that is to be mounted to a support (30). The support (30) will eventually be mounted to a structure (16) that will hold a fluid therein. Epoxy (56) holds the sensor (22) to the support (30). The cap assembly (46) includes a body (48) having a predetermined length and a shape matching the shape of the support (30). This allows the body (48) to be removably securable to the support (30). The cap assembly (46) also includes an end plate (50) covering the body (48) to prevent epoxy (56) from flowing passed the cap assembly (46). The cap assembly (46) also includes a handle (52) for removing the cap assembly (46) from the support (30) when the epoxy (56) has cured.

  • Publication number: 20040079914
Abstract: Valve (and method for arranging the valve) are provided for a purge control system in an internal combustion engine. The valve includes an inlet port operable at a first pressure level. The valve further includes an outlet port operable at a second pressure level different than the first pressure level. A plunger may be positioned in a chamber for selectively communicating the inlet port with respect to the outlet port. The plunger may be configured to move into a closed position wherein the plunger prevents communication between the inlet and outlet ports. The plunger includes a passageway for communicating the outlet port with the chamber so as to equalize relative pressure between the outlet port and the chamber and avoid pressure-induced forces in the closed position. The plunger is further configured to move into an open position in response to an actuating signal wherein the plunger enables communication between the inlet and the outlet ports.
