    Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method and a system for protecting private multimedia content which comprises a central server in communication with a client application, characterized in that a user uploads a private multimedia content to the central server and a reference file is generated including a pointer to the private multimedia content and access requirements associated. The reference file is uploaded to multimedia servers and other users of the network download it through a web browser. The client application extracts the pointer from the reference file and sends a request to the central server, where it is checked if the request fulfils the access requirements associated for the private multimedia content requested.
