Methods for preparing the copolymers employ polyphenylene ether polymers with end caps having at least one pair of unsaturated aliphatic carbon atoms, i.e. carbon-carbon double bond, and polymerize styrene monomers and acrylonitrile monomers or styrene/acrylonitrile copolymers or both in the presence of these polyphenylene ether polymers.
