  • Patent number: 11479204
Abstract: An apparatus for helping to protect an occupant of a seat in a vehicle having an instrument panel and a housing positioned therein includes an airbag for positioning in the housing and defining an inflatable volume for receiving inflation fluid from an inflator. The airbag includes an occupant-facing panel. A tether has a first end connected to the occupant-facing panel for forming a pocket therein and a second end connected to a portion of the airbag positioned within the housing. The second end includes a folded-over portion. First stitching extends through the folded-over portion in a direction extending transverse to a centerline of the tether. Second stitching extends through the folded-over portion and parallel to the first stitching. The first and second stitchings are spaced a predetermined length from one another.

  • Patent number: 11465581
Abstract: An apparatus for helping to protect an occupant of a vehicle includes an airbag and a fabric diffuser for directing inflation fluid from an inflator into the airbag. The fabric diffuser comprises first and second fabric panels arranged overlying each other and having portions interconnected along seams to define a pocket configured to receive the inflator. The pocket has a double layer diffuser section defined by the overlying first and second fabric panels that is configured to receive a discharge end of the inflator. The fabric diffuser is configured to be installed in the airbag. The first and second panels are configured so that a plurality of openings of the first fabric panel do not overlie a plurality of openings of the second fabric panel when the panels are interconnected so that inflation fluid travels an indirect path from inside the diffuser section to the exterior of the fabric diffuser.

  • Patent number: 11443529
Abstract: A method and apparatus for detecting surroundings around a vehicle may include the step of periodically scanning the surroundings in a first detection region by a laser scanner. The method may also include detecting the surroundings in a second detection region by an optical camera. The first detection region and the second detection region may at least overlap each other. An optical sensor in the camera may be exposed at least twice within one period of the laser scanner. A first exposure time for a first exposure of the at least two exposures of the optical sensor may be chosen and synchronized with the laser scanner so that the first exposure occurs within a first time window, in which the laser scanner scans the first detection region.

  • Patent number: 11292414
Abstract: In one aspect, an apparatus for protecting an occupant of a vehicle includes an airbag having a stored condition in which the airbag is deflated, flattened, and rolled and/or folded. A packaging wrap is formed from a fabric sheet. The packaging wrap includes a cover and an elongated tail that extends from the cover. The cover is configured to be wrapped or folded about the rolled and/or folded airbag to envelope and package the airbag in the stored condition. The tail is configured to be wrapped around the cover and the airbag packaged therein to secure the airbag packaged in the cover.
