  • Publication number: 20200408510
Abstract: A technique for calibrating a 3D imaging system (3D-IS) that has a large field of view (FoV?1 m3) involves: a metrological target mounted for fixed positioning with respect to an origin of the 3D-IS; a movable target plate (MTP) with at least one fiducial mark provided on a marked surface thereof; and a range and orientation measurement system (ROMS) on the MTP for measuring a distance and orientation of the MTP relative to the metrological target. The MTP is designed so that when the MTP is manipulated within the 3D-IS's FoV at an angle at which the ROMS can determine its position and orientation relative to the metrological target, at least a majority of the at least one fiducial marks is presented for coordinatization by the 3D-IS. Using such equipment, calibration involves using the measured data and the simultaneous coordinatization to calibrate.

  • Patent number: 8754954
Abstract: Generating a high definition projected illumination pattern from a substantially lower resolution digital projector array involves: selectively illuminating a connected set of pixels to produce a pixellated, high contrast edge feature, and positioning an anisotropically blurring optical element (ABOE) between a light source of the projector array and the projection. The ABOE applies an anisotropic blur pattern to pixels of the at least one connected set, to locally preferentially blur the pixel more (and preferably substantially only) in a direction of equally or more strongly illuminated pixels, and not in directions of less illuminated pixels. Preferably a contour of the connected set has no beginning or end within a periphery of the illumination plane, and has bounded curvature, permitting simple ABOEs to be used. Several images each having several or many edges can be produced using a same ABOE. The ABOE may alleviate interpixel gap effects for non-edge pixels too.

  • Patent number: 8411995
Abstract: Systems and methods for processing images in a structured light system which may be used to determine the correspondences in a camera-projector system. Those correspondences can later be used to construct a 3D model, to calibrate a projector or for other purposes. The optical and geometric characteristics of the system are initially determined. The capability of establishing correspondences is affected by the limitations of the system and the properties of the surfaces. Once images of the patterns projected on the surface are acquired, they are iteratively segmented and deconvolved using the known characteristics of the system. The result is a set of correspondences with a reduction of artifacts introduced by the limitations of the system.
