  • Patent number: 7527854
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the manufacture of a ballistic-resistant molded article in which a stack of monolayers is formed, each monolayer containing unidirectionally oriented reinforcing fibers and at most 30 mass % of a plastic matrix material, the reinforcing fibers being highly-drawn polyethylene fibers, and with the fiber direction in each monolayer being rotated with respect to the fiber direction in an adjacent monolayer, the stack then being compressed at a pressure of more than 25 MPa and a temperature between 125 and 150° C., and the plastic matrix material having a 100% modulus of at least 3 MPa.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 7, 2007
Date of Patent: May 5, 2009
    Assignee: DSM IP Assets B.V.

  • Patent number: 7114186
Abstract: The invention relates to a ballistic vest containing a stock of flexible fabrics and a stack of flexible unidirectional layers, in which the fabrics contain strong fibres of a first kind, the unidirectional layers contain strong fibres of a second kind, and in which the fibres in a unidirectional layer run essentially parallel and are disposed at an angle to fibres in an adjacent layer which is greater than 0 degrees, where in that the flexible fabric is a loose fabric and is located on the strike side of the vest. The percentages by weight of the loose fabrics and the stack of UD layers preferably is between 15:85 and 30:70%. In that case, a vest of areal density less than 6 kg/m2 can have such ballistic resistance as to stop an Action 3 bullet with a velocity of up to 437 m/s with a trauma to NIJ Standard of less than 44 mm.

  • Patent number: 7005547
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the production of cyclohexanone oxime in which a phosphate-containing aqueous reaction medium is cycled from a hydroxylammonium synthesis zone to a cyclohexanone oxime synthesis zone and back to the hydroxylammonium synthesis zone, in which hydroxylammonium synthesis zone hydroxylammonium is formed by catalytic reduction of nitrate with hydrogen, and in which cyclohexanone oxime synthesis zone hydroxylammonium is reacted with cyclohexanone to form cyclohexanone oxime, the cyclohexanone and an organic solvent being fed into the cyclohexanone oxime synthesis zone, an organic medium comprising the organic solvent and cyclohexanone oxime being withdrawn from the cyclohexanone oxime synthesis zone, characterized in that the ratio fh/fc<1.
