  • Patent number: 8166619
Abstract: A fluid-tight slide fastener including coated tapes equipped with teeth, opposite stops and a slider operable between the opposite stops to engage or disengage the teeth. The coated tapes include a core textile layer and a fluid-barrier coating made of a thermoplastic elastomer material (TPE), the teeth being made of a thermoplastic material. The textile material of the core layer of the coated tapes is chosen among polyester, polyamide and their blends or copolymers. The thermoplastic elastomer material of the coating is chosen between thermoplastic elastomer polyurethane (TPE-U) and thermoplastic elastomer polyester (TPE-E). The thermoplastic material of the teeth is chosen among PBT, ABS, polyamide and their blends or copolymers.

  • Publication number: 20100005557
Abstract: A fluid-tight slide fastener (10) comprising tapes (12) with an inner textile layer (14) and a fluid barrier layer (16), teeth elements (21) and a slider (22), wherein said textile layer (14) is made with a spun yarn of cut fibers. Preferred materials are also disclosed for the textile layer, the fluid barrier layer and the teeth, including PE for textile layer, TPE-E or TPE-U for the fluid-barrier layer and PBT, ABS, polyamide (PA) and their blends or copolymers for the teeth. A process for making slide fasteners is also disclosed, wherein strips of a spun yarn textile material are coated by extrusion or lamination of a melted fluid-barrier material.

  • Publication number: 20080083098
Abstract: Fluid-tight slide fastener (10) comprising a pair of tapes (12), each tape (12) having a layered structure comprising an inner reinforcing textile material layer (14) enveloped in a fluid barrier layer (16) made of a thermoplastic elastomer material (TPE), each tape (12) exhibiting a row (20) of aligned teeth (21) made of a thermoplastic material on at least a portion of one of the long sides (13a) thereof, the rows (20) of aligned teeth (21) of said pair of tapes (12) facing each other and being associated to opposite stops (24,26), and a slider (22) slidable between said opposite stops (24,26) for engaging in a fluid-tight way or disengaging said aligned teeth (21) respectively, characterized in that said textile material for the inner reinforcing layer (14) is chosen among polyester (PE), preferably PET, polyamide (PA) and their blends or copolymers; said thermoplastic elastomer material (TPE) for the fluid barrier layer (16) is chosen between thermoplastic elastomer polyurethane (TPE-U) and thermoplastic

  • Patent number: 7191497
Abstract: A method of sealing the join between two tapes to which the teeth of a waterproof zip are attached and two edges of a garment composed of a first or waterproof layer and a second or fabric layer, which comprises: a) applying to a first side of each tape, a strip of heat-weldable textile material attached to it, by at least one weld line, such that each strip comprises a first and a second flap; b) welding the edge of the first layer to one face of the flap furthest from the teeth; c) attaching the edge of the second layer to the second side of each tape; d) folding down the flap nearest to the teeth of the zip; and e) forming another weld that hermetically joins the outline of the outer edges of the flap to the corresponding tape around the area.
