  • Patent number: 6388351
Abstract: A bearing load washer that permits assembly of electric motors with the rotor shaft in a vertical position and extending downward is described. The bearing load washer includes a plurality of portions that form a non-planar, wave shaped, substantially circular shaped, washer body. The washer includes a center opening that is sized so that an electric motor rotor shaft can extend through the washer body. The washer includes an outer circumferential surface and at least one raised area extending radially from the outer circumferential surface. The raised areas are configured to increase the outside diameter of the washer so that the outer circumferential surface engages the inner surface of an endshield bearing pocket at each raised area of the outer circumferential surface.

  • Patent number: 6252321
Abstract: An endshield assembly for an electric motor is described. The endshield assembly includes a metal endshield, a bearing assembly, and an injected molded metal center housing that couples the bearing assembly to the metal endshield. The bearing assembly includes a cylindrical housing having an outer surface. The center housing includes a cylindrical wall having an inside surface and a plurality of projections extending from the inside surface of the cylindrical wall. The projections are positioned around the circumference of the inside surface of the center housing to engage the outer surface of the bearing housing. The projections are staggered about the center housing circumference so that every projection contacts the outer surface of the bearing housing on an opposite side of a bearing housing circumferential centerline than an immediately adjacent projection.

  • Patent number: 6229235
Abstract: An electric motor assembly including an integral tray for placement of tools and accessories is disclosed. The tray includes a plurality of compartments having a variety of shapes and sizes. A first portion of the tray is connected to a cover and the tray extends from the cover along a portion of the electric motor. A second portion of the tray is perpendicular to the cover and includes an open top which allows tools and accessories to be placed within the compartments.

  • Patent number: 6220901
Abstract: A terminal board assembly for an electric motor is described. The terminal board assembly is configured to mount inside an electric motor terminal or conduit box and includes a terminal board and a mounting bracket. The terminal board includes six terminal studs and three connecting bars extending between the terminal studs. Quick connect spade type connectors are coupled to the six terminal studs adjacent the bottom of the terminal board to facilitate quick and easy connection of the wire connection leads of an electric motor. The terminal studs and connecting bars permit a choice of “Y” or “Delta” voltage connections to the electric motor. The terminal board also includes a first and a second slot positioned at, and parallel to, opposing ends of the board. The mounting bracket includes a base portion and first and second side portions depending from opposing ends of the base portion.

  • Patent number: 6215214
Abstract: An electric motor assembly capable of withstanding heavy side loading includes a motor housing having a shell with first and second end shields including bearing supports having bearings therein. The first end shield further includes a flange for connecting a compressor to the motor. A rotor is rotatably mounted in the housing and supported by the bearings. A stiffening collar, positioned between a rotor core and the first end shield, surrounds a portion of a rotor shaft and provides support for the shaft against deflection due to heavy side loading. A centrifugal mechanism and a spacer are positioned on the rotor assembly outboard of the motor housing. The motor assembly also includes a cover attached to the second end shield. The cover holds a start capacitor, a run capacitor and a centrifugal switch and further includes snaps for mounting the centrifugal switch to the cover. An overload and an overload bracket extend, at least partially, through an opening in the second end shield.

  • Patent number: 6111331
Abstract: An air switch assembly for an electric motor including a first snap action switch, a second snap action switch, and an actuator, is described. The first snap action switch is connected to the motor start winding and the second snap action switch is connected to the run winding. An actuator is positioned within the air switch assembly such that the air switch energizes the start winding, energizes the run winding, and de-energizes the start winding while maintaining the run winding energized when the actuator is actuated from an initial position to a final position.

  • Patent number: 5855354
Abstract: A weldment for attaching mounting brackets and bases to electric motors includes an internal doubler element that is positioned within a motor shell and attached to the inner wall surface of the motor shell. A mounting bracket or base positioned on the outer wall surface of the motor shell is attached to the internal doubler element by a plug weld. The internal doubler element is positioned to increase the strength of the shell at critical stress areas. In addition to utilizing the internal doubler element, the mounting bracket is positioned to be aligned with and adjacent the lap weld seam of the motor shell.
