    Abstract: A Dynamic Triggering and Sample Engine (DTSE) that detects a first trigger received on a trigger input terminal that triggers a series of analog-to-digital conversions to be completed by an analog-to-digital converter circuit. The DTSE then determines a first sequence configuration stored in a sequence configuration table that is associated with the first trigger, causes a first analog-to-digital conversion to be performed using the first sequence configuration; causes a first analog-to-digital conversion result value to be stored in a sequence result table; and outputs an interrupt to a processor indicating that the first analog-to-digital conversion result value is available in the sequence result table. The interrupt is output from the DTSE before all remaining analog-to-digital conversions in the series are completed. In response to receiving the interrupt, the processor reads the analog-to-digital result value from the sequence result table via a bus.

    Abstract: A power controller for power sourcing equipment in a distributed power network provides power down policies and priority in the event of a power supply failure. The power down priority and policy permits implementation of a rapid decrease in the power demand of the distributed power network to avoid overload of a backup power supply. The priority may be derived based on the relative position of port information in a linked list. Devices associated with a high priority can remain powered in response to a main power supply failure, while lower priority devices can be rapidly powered down to reduce the overall load demand on the backup power supply. The ability to configure ports on the basis of priority and available policies provides a flexible and simple implementation of a response in the event of a main power supply failure.

    Abstract: A network bridge/router for identifying a data unit to be routed by a network bridge/router, for identifying a protocol associated with the received data unit to be routed, and for carrying out appropriate data unit transfer operations, all in hardware. A Receive Header Processor (RHP) analyzes the destination address of the received data unit, in hardware, for determining if routing or bridging is required. If routing is required, the RHP uses portions of the received data unit header as a compare value against predefined values stored in data structures which provide a protocol ID identifying the protocol of the received data unit and serving as an index to the appropriate microcode handling routine, executed by the RHP, for the data unit. The handling routine causes the RHP to forward data unit identifying information appropriate to the identified protocol and obtained from the received data unit to further hardware-based data unit processing elements.
