  • Patent number: 9977065
Abstract: In at least one embodiment, an apparatus for performing a high voltage (HV) short circuit diagnosis and an impedance analysis for a vehicle is provided. The apparatus includes a controller configured to measure a first voltage associated with a battery and a first current that varies based on a HV power net during the pre-charge operation and to perform the short circuit diagnosis based on the first voltage and the first current. The controller is further configured to determine a difference between the first voltage and a pre-charge voltage across one of a capacitor and the HV power net and to measure a second current based at least on the difference. The controller is further configured to perform the impedance analysis for the vehicle based on the second current.

  • Patent number: 9791494
Abstract: In at least one embodiment, an apparatus for diagnosing a state of a capacitive sensor is provided. The apparatus includes a control unit for being operably coupled to a decoupling device that exhibits a drift condition and to the capacitive sensor. The control unit being configured to determine an impedance of the capacitive sensor and to determine a characteristic of the capacitive sensor based on at least the impedance. The control unit being further configured to determine a characteristic of the decoupling device based on the characteristic of the capacitive sensor and to provide an estimated capacitance based on the characteristic of the decoupling device, the estimated capacitance being indicative of the state of the capacitive sensor.

  • Patent number: 9772392
Abstract: In at least one embodiment an apparatus for diagnosing electronics in an insulation resistance monitoring system is provided. The apparatus includes a controller for being electrically coupled to a plurality of electronics including a plurality of switches that are electrically coupled to a positive branch and to a negative branch in a high voltage network and a low voltage network. The plurality of electronics is configured to perform insulation resistance monitoring in a vehicle. The controller is further configured to at least one of activate and deactivate any number of the plurality of switches to determine an overall voltage of the positive branch and the negative branch. The controller is further configured to detect a fault in at least one of the positive branch and the negative branch that corresponds to a failure of any one of the plurality of electronics based on the overall voltage.

  • Patent number: 8878547
Abstract: A monitor for monitoring isolation resistance, impedance, or other isolation reflective conditions between vehicle systems as contemplated. The monitor may be useful in assessing insulation resistance between a high-voltage power net and a low-voltage power net. The monitor may be configured to assess a sufficiency of the insulation resistance based on a frequency response of the high-voltage power net.
