  • Patent number: 4879799
Abstract: An article comprising a heat-recoverable conduit is provided with a plug or cap within or around said conduit to prevent the ingress of contaminants. The plug or cap comprises two principal parts; the first part, which is hollow, sits inside or around the conduit and the second part, which is attached to or in engagement with the first part, blocks the conduit. The second part can be detached or disengaged before recovery so that, for example, a supply line can be passed through the conduit and the first part can then be removed, destroyed or deformed prior to or during recovery. The plug or cap may also act to prevent premature recovery of the conduit.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 4, 1988
Date of Patent: November 14, 1989
    Assignee: Raychem Corporation
    Inventors: Richard C. Sovish, Frank K. A. Selleslags, Marc F. L. Moisson

  • Patent number: 4511611
Abstract: The present invention relates to improved liner constructions, and accordingly provides a cable sleeve liner capable in use of being wrapped around a cable splice and preferably having sufficient rigidity to provide an inner support for a heat-recoverable sleeve to be shrunk thereover, the liner comprising a laminate having at least one layer of fibrous sheet material and a metal layer which is substantially impermeable to moisture vapor and has one of its major surfaces facing away from all fibrous sheet layers which may be present. Preferably the fibrous layer(s) is or are arranged between the metal layer and a microperforated first layer of flexible polymeric film material which is permeable to gases or vapors generated within the laminate during recovery of the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4268041
Abstract: A sealing device comprising a hollow body member having a plurality of spaced apart external deformable flanges and provided with a sealant on its external surface, preferably between the flanges. The device may be used to seal a supply line within a duct by pushing it within the duct so that the flanges are deformed, the sealant preferably being provided in a generous amount so that it fills the remaining gaps between the flanges after such deformation. The hollow body member may then be sealed to the supply line using, for example, a heat-shrinkable sleeve. The device may also be used to couple and repair hollow substrates such as gas and water pipes.
