  • Patent number: 7594348
Abstract: A tamper-indicating label to be applied to a container. The label is longer than the circumference of the container, so that the label can be wrapped around the container and adhered to itself in an overlap area. The label includes a tamper-indicating mechanism in the overlap area irreversibly indicating if the label has been separated in the overlap area after initial application of the label to the container. The mechanism may be (1) an adhesive bond in the overlap area that is stronger than the label stock in the overlap area, (2) a line of weakening in the label, and/or (3) a frangible material, an adhesive, and/or printing that fractures and/or separates when the overlap area is opened.

  • Publication number: 20050071044
Abstract: A method for authenticating the contents of containers. The method utilizes a security label including a removable piggyback label having an authentication feature. The method generally includes: obtaining a bulk container with contents stored therein, the container labeled with the security label and the authentication feature indicative of the contents; transferring at least a portion of the contents from the bulk container to a consumer container; and transferring the piggyback label having the authentication feature to the consumer container to verify the authenticity of the transferred contents. This method is useful when transferring pharmaceutical products from a bulk container to individual consumer containers because consumers can be confident that the pharmaceuticals stored by their containers are authentic.

  • Patent number: 6187128
Abstract: A labeling apparatus for converting base label stock to releasably-lined labels. The apparatus includes a vacuum anvil roller and an idler roller which cooperate to separate the base stock into its face web and backing liner components. A cutting roller cooperates with the vacuum anvil roller to butt cut the unlined face web to form butt cut labels. A traction nip roller cooperates with the vacuum anvil roller to press the butt cut labels to the backing liner to form the releasably-lined labels. The releasably-lined labels may be imprinted and the backing liner removed as the label is affixed to an article using conventional labeling equipment. A rewind nip roller cooperates with the traction nip roller to pull the backing liner, which is then rolled on a rewind mandril. The apparatus does not weaken or cut the backing liner during conversion to releasably-lined labels, because the butt cut is made after the face web is separated from the backing liner.
