  • Patent number: 6404563
Abstract: A portable electronic device having a variable focus display comprises a housing (512), supporting an image generating apparatus (518, 610, 710, 810), a lens (514, 612, 712, 812), and an optical element (520, 620, 720, 730, 820). The optical element has zero optical power and is located along an optical axis between the image generating apparatus and the lens.

  • Patent number: 5965907
Abstract: A full color organic light emitting backlight device for liquid crystal display applications defined by a first OLED panel, designed to emit light in a red bandwidth, a second OLED panel, positioned adjacent the first OLED panel and designed to emit light in a green bandwidth, and a third OLED panel, positioned adjacent the second OLED panel and designed to emit light in a blue bandwidth. The light emitting device having positioned on an uppermost surface a liquid crystal display. The device intended for incorporation into portable electronic devices. The device is fabricated to achieve a full color image using field sequential color techniques.

  • Patent number: 5644430
Abstract: A single fold optical magnifier including a plurality of optical elements having an aspheric field flattening light inlet with a light outlet directed at an angle to the inlet and a reflecting surface positioned to direct light from the inlet to the outlet. The optical elements define a light path from the inlet to the outlet with a total average optical length of approximately 15 to 35 millimeters. At least one aspheric surface and one diffractive optical element are positioned in the light path to provide aberration correction, and the optical elements are constructed to angularly magnify images by at least a power of ten.
