  • Publication number: 20240009395
Abstract: Systems and methods for dispensing Blow-Fill-Seal (BFS) vials such as pre-filled vials containing a vaccine or other medicament via utilization of an assistive dispensing device to selectively compress the fluid reservoir of the BFS vial is shown and described. The assistive dispensing device includes one or more protrusions to aid in applying compressive force to assist in dispensing the liquid from the vial, and may also include a first dosage setting member and a second dosage setting member, that engage each other to limit movement of the one or more protrusions when the proper compression force has been reached.

  • Publication number: 20230241328
Abstract: A pre-filled medical delivery system can have a blow-fill-seal (BFS) module and a mixing assembly. The BFS module can have first and second chambers, first and second sealed ports, and first and second actuation members. Each chamber can have a respective liquid agent therein. Each sealed port and each actuation member can be in fluid communication with a respective one of the chambers. The mixing assembly can be constructed for coupling to the BFS module. When coupled to the BFS module, the mixing assembly can breach the seals of the first and second ports and provide fluid communication therebetween. The disclosed systems, when assembled, can combine the liquid agents from the first and second chambers of the BFS component and deliver the combination as a single dose of a therapeutic agent (e.g., vaccine, drug, medicament, etc.) to a patient.

  • Publication number: 20050267410
Abstract: A needlestick prevention device for an injection device (1) having a hollow needle (2) comprises a sheath having a first member (9) for attachment to the injection device (1) and a second member (10) slidable longitudinally relative to the first member (9) to expose or to cover the needle (2), and spring means (11) biasing the second member (10) to cover the needle (2). The first and second members (9, 10) have interengaging guide means (13) and locking means (14), including a first guide part (23) operative to allow free longitudinal sliding movement of the second member (10) relative to the first member (9), and a second guide part (24) operative on movement by manual relative rotation of the first and second members (9, 10) and following release of a force urging the second member (10) to expose the needle (2). The spring means (11) urges the second member (10) to cover the needle (2) and to operate the locking means (14) to retain the second member (10) covering the needle (2).

  • Publication number: 20030073959
Abstract: A syringe barrel 1 has a hollow distal projection 7 to which a needle 10 is attached. A hub 11 is used to attach the needle 10 to the barrel 1. The hub 11 has a distal part 12 to which the needle 10 is fixed, and a proximal part 14 for attachment to the barrel 1. The proximal part 14 includes a bore 15 for receiving the projection 7 and an outwardly-extending flange 16. The syringe barrel 1 has a collar 9 surrounding and spaced from the projection 7 to define a space for receiving the proximal part 14 of the hub 11. The internal surface of the collar 9 includes a single outwardly-extending locking projection 19, arranged so that the flange 16 engages its proximal side to lock the hub 11 to the barrel 1. The locking projection 19 has a shallow lead-in ramp 20 on the distal side, a more steeply-angled ramp 21 on the proximal side, and a cylindrical surface 22 separating the ramps 20, 21. The projection 19 fixes the hub 11 to the barrel 1 so it is difficult, if not impossible, to remove.

  • Patent number: 6368306
Abstract: A syringe comprises a barrel (1) having a plunger (7) in slidable and sealing engagement therewith. In order to provide an autodestruct system, so that the syringe can be used once only, being rendered disabled after one normal use, the barrel (1) has means interrupting the cylindrical surface of its inner wall in the form of grooves (10, 11) or a projection (29), and the plunger (7) has a locking means (17, 20) which operates on engagement with a groove (10, 11) or projection (29) on withdrawal of the plunger (7) to prevent further withdrawal movement. The locking means (17, 20) is provided on the head of the plunger (7) adjacent an elastomeric sealing cap (15). The locking means may comprise a pair of flukes (17) or a cross-shaped disc (20).

  • Patent number: 5047017
Abstract: A single-use syringe which may be constructed for use by drug abusers comprises a barrel (2) and a plunger (13) slidably mounted in the barrel (2) with the plunger stopper (14) sealingly engaging with the inner wall of the barrel (2). Projections (10) extend from the inner wall of the barrel (2) and are located at such a distance from the distal end of the barrel (2) to permit flushing movements of the stopper (14). A breakable joint (20) integrally joins the stopper (14) and the plunger rod (15), and is broken by engagement of the stopper (14) with the projections (10), so that the stopper is retained in the end of the barrel and the syringe is rendered unfit for further use. In one embodiment, the joint is resilient such that the joint moves readily past the projections during full advance of the plunger to inject a drug, but engages the projections thereby breaking the joint, during subsequent withdrawal of the plunger.
