Publication number: 20120325046Abstract: A method for producing a fracture-divided component, in particular a connecting rod, with an at least partially coated bore includes the steps of: providing an unfinished component; applying a coating of a bearing material to a bore surface; and working the coating, in order to compensate internal tensile stresses in the coating, before fracture division of the component. Alternatively, the method for producing a fracture-divided component, in particular a connecting rod, having an at least partially coated bore includes the steps of: providing an unfinished component; applying a coating of a bearing material to a bore surface before fracture division of the component; and forming a counter-hardness zone before the application of the coating in order to generate compressive stresses which oppose the internal tensile stresses of the coating.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 4, 2012Publication date: December 27, 2012Applicant: Bayerische Motoren Werke AktiengesellschaftInventors: Clemens Luchner, Marc Kronenberg, Rolf Koring, Ralf Kowollik

Publication number: 20120289361Abstract: A golf club head includes a body defining an interior cavity. The body includes a sole positioned at a bottom portion of the golf club head, a crown positioned at a top portion, and a skirt positioned around a periphery between the sole and crown. The body has a forward portion and a rearward portion. The club head includes a face positioned at the forward portion of the body. The face defines a striking surface having an ideal impact location at a golf club head origin. Embodiments include club heads for a fairway wood that at least one of a high moment of inertia, a low center-of-gravity, a thin crown and a high coefficient of restitution.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 10, 2012Publication date: November 15, 2012Inventors: Todd P. Beach, Matthew David Johnson, Nathan T. Sargent, Kraig Alan Willett, Michelle Penney, Marc Kronenberg, Matthew Greensmith, Joseph Henry Hoffman

Publication number: 20120034392Abstract: A method is provided for coating a surface of an Fe-based, hardenable sintered, sinter-forged or forged component, and in particular for internally coating the large end bore of a motor vehicle connecting rod with a bearing coating, wherein the coating material applied to the component surface is converted to a molten state during the coating process. A material bond, which is durable even under high loads, is attained between the coating and the base material of the sintered or forged component without any disturbing residual stresses by a simple manufacturing method due to the fact that during the coating process the component surface is briefly heated in the untreated state of the component above the austenitization temperature to a temperature level having a significantly increased diffusion rate within the limits of the outer edge zone having less carbon for reasons relating to the manufacturing process.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 13, 2011Publication date: February 9, 2012Applicant: Bayerische Motoren Werke AktiengesellschaftInventors: Clemens LUCHNER, Marc Kronenberg

Publication number: 20110306439Abstract: A face insert for golf club head in one embodiment can comprise a substrate comprising a score line groove-free front surface. A cover layer is provided at least on the front surface of the substrate. The cover layer can alternatively overlay at least a portion of the peripheral edge of the substrate. The cover layer comprises a ball-striking surface spaced by the cover layer from the substrate. Plural elongated score line grooves can extend into the polymer layer from the ball-striking surface. In addition, visible markings are interposed between the cover layer and the front surface of the substrate, the visible markings being visible through the cover layer. In one form the visible markings comprise elongated score line markings and target markings in a central portion of the substrate. The visible markings can be screen-printed markings, which are then protected by the cover layer from wear. The cover layer can be molded and can be a polymer layer.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 13, 2011Publication date: December 15, 2011Inventors: Mark Lin, Bing-Ling Chao, Citra A. Ie, Todd P. Beach, Benoit Vincent, Peter L. Larsen, Marc Kronenberg, Drew T. DeShiell
