  • Patent number: 10793927
Abstract: The invention relates to an improved process for separating lignin and monomeric sugars from a liquor comprising lignin and monomeric sugars in a solvent mixture of water and at least one organic solvent, which employs membrane filtration techniques such as nanofiltration and selective water removal, preferably by permeation through a membrane which is selective for water molecules. The invention further relates to a modular system for executing the process according to the invention. The process and system according to the invention are particularly suitable to be incorporated with pre-treatment of lignocellulosic biomass, in particular by organosolv fractionation or solvolysis.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 16, 2016
Date of Patent: October 6, 2020
Assignee: NEDERLANDSE ORGANISATIE VOOR TOEGEPAST-NATUURWETENSCHAPPELIJK ONDERZOEK TNO
Inventors: Marc Matheus Antonius Van Tuel, Wouter Johannes Joseph Huijgen, Henk Martin Van Veen
  • Patent number: 10232323
Abstract: The invention provides a membrane suitable for dewatering acidic mixtures, comprising a bridged organosilica directly applied on a macroporous support in the absence of an intermediate mesoporous or finer layer. The bridged organic silica comprises divalent C1-C9 organic groups A2 and/or trivalent C1-C9 organic groups A3 directly bound to the silicon atoms of the organosilica. In particular, the membrane comprises bis-silylmethane or bis-silylethane groups. The membranes effectively separate water from acidic mixtures at high temperatures and without decrease in performance for at least several months.

  • Publication number: 20110127169
Abstract: A solid oxide reactor provided with an electrode structure comprising a first electrode, a second electrode (6; 26), a first gas chamber (V1 ), a second gas chamber and an ion-conductive medium (8), wherein an ion-conductive medium is located between the first electrode (2) and the second electrode, wherein furthermore, the first electrode borders on the first gas chamber, and the second electrode borders on the second gas chamber. The first electrode comprises a first layer of a conductive oxide material, the conductive oxide material being composed of at least one electron-conducting oxide material provided with a defective structure and one ion-conductive oxide material provided with a defective structure. The second electrode comprises a first layer of a conductive oxide material, the conductive oxide material being composed of at least one electron-conductive oxide material provided with a defective structure and one ion-conductive oxide material provided with a defective structure.
