Patent number: 9667488Abstract: Network service providers are managed using a server-side configuration approach. According to an example embodiment of the present invention, a host network location includes two or more servers that automatically reconfigure their services in response to controller service settings corresponding to each server. Each server reads configuration information provided at a controller such as a domain name server (DNS), and in response, starts a network-based service corresponding to the configuration information. For instance, each of the two or more servers may be adapted to provide mail service via simple mail transfer protocol (SMTP) and web service via hyper text transfer protocol (HTTP). In this regard, when a DNS associates a first one of the servers with HTTP services and a second one of the servers with SMTP services, each server reconfigures its services accordingly, e.g., at a selected configuration time after startup or in response to an initiating event.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2014Date of Patent: May 30, 2017Assignee: 8x8, Inc.Inventor: Marc Petit-Huguenin

Patent number: 9538013Abstract: A method and system for updating physical location data associated with a VoIP endpoint device is implemented in a variety of embodiments. In one such embodiment, a VoIP endpoint device stores an identifier for a packet-communicating device which is subject to changing. The VoIP endpoint device has an interface for communication over the Internet via the packet-communicating device and uses a circuit-implemented method for prompting a VoIP user to update physical location data associated with the VoIP endpoint device. In response to a power state transition and a change in the stored identifier, the VoIP endpoint device facilitates an update to the physical location data associated with the VoIP service.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 2014Date of Patent: January 3, 2017Assignee: 8x8, Inc.Inventors: Marc Petit-Huguenin, Bryan R. Martin

Patent number: 9338221Abstract: Distributed conferencing systems and methods provide local meeting contents to remote participants. In accordance with various example embodiments, a plurality of authorized source units generate media content responsive to and representative of respective content for a meeting. In response to the generated media content, one or more data streams are developed at each authorized source, each stream being a separately-decodable real-time representation of at least a portion of the media content generated at the respective authorized source. The separate data streams are transmitted by each authorized source to a common multicast IP group address for retrieval/access by remote participants.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 2013Date of Patent: May 10, 2016Assignee: 8x8, Inc.Inventor: Marc Petit-Huguenin

Publication number: 20160021253Abstract: The present application details methods and systems for facilitating within a network-based communication system, a communication session between a group of network devices. For example, the network device receives incoming data streams from other network devices in the communication session. The network device also sends an outgoing data stream to the other network devices in the communication session. Further, the network device combines the incoming data stream with the outgoing data stream and presents the combined data stream to a user.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 18, 2014Publication date: January 21, 2016Inventor: Marc Petit-Huguenin

Patent number: 9203652Abstract: A variety of methods, systems, devices and arrangements are implemented for assessing and/or controlling call routing for VoIP/VioIP calls. According to one such method, endpoint devices are used to monitor and/or assess the call-quality. The assessment is sent to a centralized server arrangement and call-routing is controlled therefrom. Endpoint devices employ a decentralized testing mechanism to further monitor and assess call quality including the use of test connections. Aspects of call quality are analyzed and attributed to endpoint devices and/or local connections or networks to distinguish intermediate routing issues from local/endpoint issues.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 2009Date of Patent: December 1, 2015Assignee: 8x8, Inc.Inventors: Marc Petit-Huguenin, Garth Judge

Patent number: 9116752Abstract: A variety of methods, systems, devices and arrangements are implemented for controlling server load-distributions. According to one such computer-implemented method, a desired server load-distribution is assigned for a plurality of computer servers that collectively provide services to computer clients. In response to a computer client request for service, a subset of computer servers is selected from the plurality of computer servers. Weight factors for servers of the selected subset of servers are determined as a function of the overall server load-distribution-profile and the selected subset.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 2010Date of Patent: August 25, 2015Assignee: 8x8, Inc.Inventors: Marc Petit-Huguenin, Bryan R. Martin, Jim Kleck

Patent number: 8532090Abstract: Aspects of the invention are directed to a telephony system that is adapted to receive, route, process, and deliver communications data using a cost-effective, user-friendly operations platform and a broadband communication network. For example, the system includes a computer server arrangement and a plurality of endpoint devices communicatively coupled to one or more communication channels comprising an Internet protocol (IP) network. Packet-based (VoIP) calls are transmitted over an IP network, and translated to standard PSTN call signals when necessary. The broadband telephony system of the present invention utilizes each user's own IP network endpoint device as not only each user's local gateway onto the IP network, but also as a remote gateway for bridging other user's calls from the IP network to a local PSTN network in order to reach non-users.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 2008Date of Patent: September 10, 2013Assignee: 8x8, Inc.Inventors: Marc Petit-Huguenin, Isabelle Dalmasso, Barry D.
