  • Publication number: 20080275118
Abstract: This invention relates to compositions and processes for stimulating the growth of mammalian hair comprising the topical application of compositions comprising a hair growth stimulating and/or hair loss prevention agent, and a hair and/or skin lightening and/or neutralization agent, in association with a topical pharmaceutical carrier. Unlike other products, the composition of the invention can be used with dyed/treated hair so as to not affect the color of the hair.

  • Publication number: 20070198660
Abstract: Music tracks are made available to users at no cost because advertisements are automatically intermixed between the tracks. Free music tracks, ads and machine readable instructions for playing the ads are downloaded from a central computing system to digital media players. Portable digital media players are well suited for practice of the invention. After a track is played the digital media player checks the ad-play instructions to determine if an ad is to be played. If so, the appropriate ad is played, if not, the next track chosen by the user is played. Logs of ad play and track play are maintained on the digital media player and uploaded to the central computing system. Wireless communication between the digital media player and the central computing system are well suited for practice of this invention. The data from the logs is aggregated by the central computing system and used to charge advertisers and compensate copyright holders in the music tracks.

  • Patent number: 7046956
Abstract: Messaging, such as promotional messaging, is delivered to users of digital audio media players, such as digital disc and tape players. Portable players are especially suited for practice of the invention. Players include a wireless receiver to receive messages and memory for storage of messages. Alternatively, player memory is preloaded with messages. A controller plays messages at reasonable times, e.g., at breaks between tracks of the audio disc or tape being played. Advertising or promotional messages are broadcast to capable digital audio players via wireless transmission and stored in memory. The player reads control information on the disc and stores it in memory. The control information is used to play messages from memory. An effective promotion method is enabled through the invention and use of a player capable of message reception, storage and play in accordance with the invention.

  • Patent number: 6600409
Abstract: A self-contained accessory for an analog metering device such as a speedometer or tachometer. The accessory includes a sensor which is selectively adjustable to align with a plurality of positions in the range of movement of an output needle of the analog metering device. In the preferred embodiment, the sensor is alignable with gradation marks, e.g., miles per hour indicia on a speedometer, and the accessory provides a signal when a needle reaches a selected gradation. The signal is sent to a secondary device, such as a radar detector or central monitoring system. The signal may also be used to provide an indication that alerts a user that a selected gradation has been reached by an output needle of the analog metering device. The accessory attaches to a cover of the analog metering device and allows adjustment of sensor position without removal of the accessory from the cover.

In the preferred embodiment, the sensor is alignable with gradation marks, e.g., miles per hour indicia on a speedometer, and the accessory provides a clear indication when a needle reaches a selected gradation. The indication alerts a user that a selected gradation has been reached by an output needle of the analog metering device. The accessory attaches to a cover of the analog metering device and allows adjustment of sensor position without removal of the accessory from the cover.

  • Patent number: 6306422
Abstract: A method for the controlled release of a biologically active agent wherein the agent is released from a hydrophobic, pH-sensitive polymer matrix is disclosed and claimed. In one embodiment, the polymer matrix swells when the environment reaches pH 8.5, releasing the active agent. A polymer of hydrophobic and weakly acidic comonomers is disclosed for use in the controlled release system. In another embodiment, weakly basic comonomers are used and the active agent is released as the pH drops. Further disclosed is a specific embodiment in which the controlled release system may be used. The pH-sensitive polymer is coated onto a latex catheter used in ureteral catheterization. A common problem with catheterized patients is the infection of the urinary tract with urease-producing bacteria. In addition to the irritation caused by the presence of the bacteria, urease produced by these bacteria degrade urea in the urine, forming carbon dioxide and ammonia. The ammonia causes an increase in the pH of the urine.
