  • Publication number: 20150192059
Abstract: A thermostatic valve for controlling the temperature of the coolant in an internal combustion engine controls the flow of coolant between the internal combustion engine and a heat exchanger. The valve includes an actuation element which functions in a temperature-dependent manner for actuating lift of a main valve and of a bypass valve in a valve housing. The actuation element has a stationary piston supported on a valve housing part. A housing can be displaced relative to the piston and on which the valve members of the main valve and of the bypass valve are arranged. Further provided is a monitoring device for the position of the main valve, which works in a contactless manner and which has at least one sensor element contained in the valve housing part, and at least one associated permanent magnet for generating a magnetic field to which the sensor element is exposed.

  • Patent number: 9068962
Abstract: A method for determining an asphaltene yield curve and an asphaltene flocculation point includes obtaining a crude oil sample and measuring an optical spectrum of the crude oil sample. A titrant is then mixed with the crude oil sample at different concentrations. At each concentration, precipitated asphaltenes are filtered from the mixture and the optical spectrum of the filtrate is measured. The optical spectrum of the filtrate is then subtracted from the optical spectrum of the crude oil sample. A fractional asphaltene precipitation is determined for each concentration of titrant. A flocculation point is determined corresponding to an inflection point in the fractional asphaltene precipitation for each concentration of titrant.

  • Patent number: 8990061
Abstract: Performance metrics related to the processing and propagation of messages related to select applications are collected during a simulation of a network. Each message associated with an application is tagged, and each simulated packet that contains some or all of a tagged message is correspondingly tagged to facilitate the creation of transmit records and receive records. A post processor is configured to collate transmit and receive records of each tagged message to identify delays associated with each node that processes the message, and each link that propagates the message from node to node within the network. The processed timing information is provided to the user via an interactive user interface that allows the user to view the timing information from an application layer perspective.

  • Patent number: 8932019
Abstract: A fan wheel (1) is designed as a radial or diagonal fan, comprising a top plate (2) with an inlet port (4), a base plate (6) and a plurality of fan blades (8) distributed around the inlet port (4) and around an axis of rotation (Z). Blade ducts extend (10) respectively between the adjacent fan blades (8). The blade ducts lead radially or diagonally outward from the area of the inlet port (4) and form blow-out ports in the outer region. The blade ducts (10) are designed, with respect to their effective flow cross-section, as large enough that during operation, a turbulent flow with a Reynolds number markedly greater than 2300 is achieved. The top plate (2) or the base plate (6) or both feature a rotationally asymmetrical geometry with a continuous profile, at least in angular sections encompassing the fan blades (8).

  • Publication number: 20140086728
Abstract: A diffuser (3) for a fan (2) of axial, radial or diagonal type of construction, has an inlet opening (10) and having an outlet opening (20) for a gaseous medium which flows through a diffuser interior (I), which is enclosed by an outer housing (30), in an axially oriented main flow direction (S) from the inlet opening (10) to the outlet opening (20). The cross section of the diffuser interior (I) increases from the cross section (11) of the inlet opening to the cross section (21) of the outlet opening (20), wherein the outer housing (30) forms an outer diffuser part (AD) which delimits the diffuser interior (I) to the outside. Along the main flow direction (S), the cross section of the outer diffuser part (AD) changes from a circular cross section (31) at the inlet opening (10) to a non-circular cross section (32) at the outlet opening (20).

  • Patent number: 7705982
Abstract: This relates to methods and apparatus for analyzing samples by fluorescence spectroscopy. In one embodiment, the methods and apparatus use a fluorescence detection unit (FDU) of a composition fluid analyzer (CFA™) module to detect variations in fluid properties (gradients) within an oil bearing column. Some embodiments enable efficient downhole fluid analysis in heavy oils where water/oil emulsions are present (water in dispersed phase and oil in the continuous phase). The principles described herein may also be applied when there are fine particles in the oil such as from unconsolidated sands.
