  • Publication number: 20070007426
Abstract: A mold for producing a ceramic heat shield element having a mold shell is provided. The mold shell comprises a plurality of mold surfaces and a casting aperture for pouring in a ceramic material. The mold shell is embodied as a single-piece mold shell during casting, and the casting aperture is embodied as an aperture in one of the mold surfaces. Separating or retaining elements enable graded or reinforced heat shield elements to be produced.

  • Publication number: 20070000252
Abstract: The invention relates to a heat shield block, particularly for lining a combustion chamber wall, with a hot side that can be subjected to the action of hot medium and with a wall side situated opposite the hot side. A core area, which has a core material, extends inside the heat shield block from the hot side to the wall side. The core area is surrounded by an edge area with an edge material whose heat conductivity is lower than that of the core material. This targeted thermal insulation in the edge area provided in the form of a material bond between the core material and the edge material renders the heat shield block particularly unsusceptible to the formation and growth of cracks in the core area on the hot side. The invention also relates to a combustion chamber provided with heat shield blocks of the aforementioned type, and to a gas turbine provided with a combustion chamber comprising such a heat shield block.

  • Publication number: 20060207263
Abstract: A combustion chamber (4) for a gas turbine (1), the combustion chamber wall (24) of which is furnished on the inside with a lining formed of a number of heat shield elements (26), is to be designed for a particularly high level of operating safety. To this end, one or a number of temperature sensors (28) is/are located according to the invention between combustion chamber wall (24) and heat shield elements (26).

  • Patent number: 6840047
Abstract: Disclosed is a lining for inner walls of combustion chambers having essentially plate-shaped shielding elements arranged on the inner walls so as to leave a gap. To introduce efficient sealing off against the penetration of hot gases, porous flow barriers capable of being inserted into the gap between adjacent shielding elements are used. The flow barriers are effective in reducing the air demand. The reduction in the air demand has a positive effect on the stability of the burner flames, the effectiveness of the machine and the pollutant emissions and makes it possible to have a further increase in performance, while adhering to maximum given material temperatures.

  • Publication number: 20040110041
Abstract: An article comprising a ceramic material having a ceramic matrix composite backing adapted for use in a gas turbine engine is provided. The article comprises a structural ceramic material having a hot side facing toward a high temperature environment and a cold side facing away from the high temperature environment; and a ceramic matrix composite composition having a strength greater than the strength of the ceramic material attached to the back of the cold side of the ceramic material, whereby crack initiation and propagation are inhibited by the ceramic matrix composition to a greater degree than by the ceramic material.
