    Abstract: An endoscope is described, in which a shaft is included with inner and outer sheath pipes (1, 2) multiple illumination units (10) with LED's (25) provided for producing illumination light cascade-like, axially sequentially. The illumination units (10) consist of light transmissive carriers, upon which the LED's (25) are bonded. The light produced by the sequentially arranged illumination units (10) is emitted at the distal end with a high intensity of illumination, preferably after reflection from a mirror (11) provided at the proximal end.
