Patent number: 6804388Abstract: An apparatus and method of registering a panel is disclosed. The panel is held in a frame. The frame includes a transparent plate that covers the panel. The transparent plate has a pattern on at least one surface. Next, an image of each one of a number of registration targets on the surface of the panel is received. The image is received through the transparent panel. The actual location of each one of the registration targets relative to the pattern is then determined.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2001Date of Patent: October 12, 2004Assignee: ManiaBarco, Inc.Inventor: Marc Vernackt

Patent number: 6437850Abstract: A method is described for exposing both sides of a light sensitive sheet such as a printed circuit board panel according to imaging data. The method uses a device that has an optical system for scanning the sensitive sheet by one or more beams. The optical system scans both sides with the scan lines on one side mutually positioned with respect to the scan lines on the other side. According to one implementation, the optical system includes two optical scanning units driven by a single source, with a switch alternating the beam from the source to one then the other optical scanning unit.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 2001Date of Patent: August 20, 2002Assignee: ManiaBarco NVInventors: Marc Vernackt, Ronny A. Patent number: 6387579Abstract: A system and method is disclosed that provides an automated, flow-through, dual side, laser direct imaging process and apparatus. This provides the capability to simultaneously register and image both sides of a substrate in a continuous flow-through process. The present invention provides efficiency improvements over the prior art on several levels. First, the prior art is batch process in which substrates are imaged one (or a batch) at a time in contrast with the present invention is a continuous, flow through, sequential process whereby a first substrate is followed into the apparatus by a second substrate which is, in turn followed by a third and so forth and the second substrate begins the process through the apparatus before the first substrate completes the process through the apparatus. Second, the process time per substrate is reduced as compared to the prior art.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 2000Date of Patent: May 14, 2002Assignee: ManiaBarco N.V.Inventor: Marc Vernackt

Patent number: 6371430Abstract: This invention relates to a vacuum holder for securing workpieces, such as flexible media or printed circuit boards, through a suction force. Pressure responsive, one way flow valves are incorporated between chambers under suction openings to control the application of suction. This results in a restraining force that is uniform in time and space, resulting in a vacuum holder that has reduced pumping requirements.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 1999Date of Patent: April 16, 2002Assignee: Mania Barco N.V.Inventor: Marc Vernackt

Patent number: 5971393Abstract: The present invention relates to a device and a method for unloading a sheet medium from a vacuum drum which may be a vacuum drum of an imagesetter for example, or a vacuum drum of an input scanning machine. The unloading is facilitated by the stiffness of sheet medium. When the vacuum holding a sheet medium is released, the stiffness of the sheet medium causes the sheet to separate from the drum. A roll forces the sheet onto the drum and the motion of the drum forces the sheet medium onto a table which has been moved into proximity of the drum. The sheet travels onto a transport mechanism which eventually takes over the moving of the sheet medium without requiring synchronism between the drum rotational speed and the transport mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 1998Date of Patent: October 26, 1999Assignee: Barco Graphics N.V.Inventor: Marc Vernackt

Patent number: 5836581Abstract: The present invention relates to a device and a method for loading a sheet-like medium onto a drum without tension. The drum may be a vacuum drum of an imagesetter for example, or a vacuum drum of an input scanning machine. In order to load a sheet-like medium onto a drum without any tension, the sheet-like medium is taken over by take-over means before fixing it on the drum.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 1996Date of Patent: November 17, 1998Assignee: Barco Graphics N.V.Inventor: Marc Vernackt
