  • Patent number: 10337207
Abstract: A lock system may comprise a lock assembly including a locking element movable between locking and unlocking positions, and a first lock actuating assembly configured to be mechanically operated to actuate the locking element to move between the locking and unlocking positions, with mechanical operation of the first lock actuation assembly occurring through a physical object. The system may also comprise a second lock actuating assembly configured to be electrically operated to actuate the locking element to move between the retracted and extended positions, with electrical operation of the second lock actuating assembly occurring through reception of a wireless signal by the second lock actuating assembly. The lock and lock actuating assemblies may have at least one mode of operation characterized by the lock assembly being actuated only by substantially simultaneous operation of the first lock actuating assembly and operation of the second lock actuating assembly.

  • Patent number: 10120991
Abstract: A system and method of erasing data on a data handling device may include providing a device with a data storage element and a biometric characteristic scanning element, scanning a triggering biometric characteristic of a secured user by the scanning element, and storing protected data in a protected storage location on the data handling device. System and method may also include monitoring the scanning element for detection of a biometric characteristic, detecting a biometric characteristic by the scanning element, and determining if the detected biometric characteristic corresponds to the triggering biometric characteristic. If the detected biometric characteristic corresponds to the triggering biometric characteristic, then erasing data in the protected storage location.

  • Patent number: 9719275
Abstract: A pin setting key for setting rotational orientations of pins of a lock. The key includes a bow portion and a blade portion for inserting into a keyway. The blade portion has a longitudinal axis and a bow end and a tip end, with a plurality of bitting positions located between the bow and tip ends. Each of the bitting positions corresponds to one of the pins of the plug such that insertion of the blade portion into the keyway aligns the bitting position with one of the pins. Each bitting position includes at least one bitting surface configured to rotate a pin when the contact surface of the pin contacts the bitting surface. Each bitting surface is offset from a central location of the respective bitting position. Each bitting surface has an axis extending generally transverse to the longitudinal axis of the blade.

  • Patent number: 7441431
Abstract: A pin tumbler lock of a first embodiment includes a shell containing top pins; and a plug, rotatable within the shell, containing standard bottom pins, and a shorter bottom pin, set back from the face of the plug. A tubular key has bitings corresponding to the standard bottom pins, and a projection corresponding to the short bottom pin. When the key is inserted, the bitings and the projection press all the bottom pins to the shear line. In a second embodiment, a lock includes a shell containing top pins and a depression; and a plug, rotatable within the shell, containing bottom pins. The depression is configured and dimensioned to receive one of the bottom pins. The depression may be opposite one of the bottom pins, and there may be one more bottom pin than top pins. When the key is inserted, the bottom pins are moved to the shear line.

  • Patent number: 5355701
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for decoding pin tumbler locks, and more specifically, a mechanical key card lock. To determine the length and weight of a given pin tumbler, a probe is inserted within the lock, comprised of one or a matrix of many force sensing resistors. The probe will respond to variations in pressure and tension of each pin tumbler, and will thus provide a range of output resistances, directly related to the pressure exerted upon the sensor by a particular pin tumbler. The outputs of the sensors are then electronically sensed and recorded so that a duplicate key can be produced.

  • Patent number: 5277042
Abstract: A mechanical anti-theft device of the type applied to the steering wheel of an automotive vehicle which automatically ratchets to it's applied position without necessity of key lock actuation is provided with several security enhancing features which cumulatively prevent or make the device exceedingly difficult to unlock using conventional burglary tools or lock picking techniques. The features include configuring the ratchet teeth of the telescoping rod member in a way which minimizes any attempt to deactivate the lock unless the key is used. In combination with the ratchet teeth configuration, the lock pawl mechanism is configured to include an arcuate, transversely extending apex edge line or surface which cooperates with or is sized to be coincident with the rod members circumference to prevent a wedge, shim or pick from being readily easily inserted between pawl and ratchet tooth to force a retraction of the pawl.
