  • Patent number: 7176832
Abstract: The invention concerns a safety system on board a ship for facilitating rescue of a person having fallen overboard whereby each navigator on board is equipped with an individual portable radio transmitter apparatus and regular links are established between each apparatus and a centralized monitoring radio device, that is a device for receiving radio signals from each individual portable apparatus (even querying them one by one by radio transmission) and in spotting the absence of any apparatus which would indicate the loss of a navigator overboard, by monitoring the regular reception of radio signals emitted by each apparatus and by detecting any absence of reception from the portable apparatus of a navigator to launch in that case a rescue operation.

  • Patent number: 6430241
Abstract: The configuration and the method coordinate the operating clock signals of different communications devices with one another. The devices may thereby be connected to one another via a synchronous or an asynchronously transmitting network. First, a propagation delay of a signal between two communications devices is determined. There is additionally determined the conversion outlay within the processing devices for the identification of the respective timing signal. The compensation is effected as a function of the signal conditioning time and the propagation delay on the network. In particular, this enables the operating clock signals of base stations located at remote switching devices to be coordinated with one another in the correct phase, if the base stations are connected to one another for example via a local area network, such as a high-speed Ethernet.

  • Patent number: 6304195
Abstract: A device alters a course of a watercraft including an automatic pilot with a magnetic compass. The device includes at least two coils positioned adjacent the magnetic compass, and an excitation circuit for exciting each of the two coils. The device further includes a control circuit for controlling the excitation circuit as a function of a course signal and a boat list signal so that the magnetic compass is rotated counter-clockwise to a predetermined direction when a listing of the watercraft is to starboard, and is rotated clockwise to the predetermined position when the listing of the watercraft is to portside.

  • Patent number: 5946303
Abstract: A method for communicating configuration information between two interface devices connected to a communication link in a system in which each device is capable of generating and recognizing an alarm indication signal (AIS) indicating that the device generating the AIS is not available for communication. In a communication system utilizing the present invention, each interface device is capable of modulating the AIS signal and recognizing a modulated AIS signal. A first modulation pattern is used to establish communication between devices with incompatible configurations. Configuration information is then sent from one of the devices by utilizing a second modulation pattern.
