    Abstract: In a method for setting up a digital synchronous cross-connect connection between data transmission units that are connected to interfaces of user devices, asynchronous interfaces are allocated an additive neutral element, and data signals that have been received in a data transmission unit via various data channels are added together. This makes it possible to accommodate even asynchronous subscribers in a synchronous cross-connect connection.
