  • Publication number: 20110084302
Abstract: A method for the manufacture of a wavelength converted light emitting device is provided. A light curable coating material is arranged on the outer surface of a wavelength converted light emitting diode. The light curable coating material is cured, in positions where a high intensity of unconverted LED-light encounters the curable coating material. The method can be used to selectively stop unconverted light from exiting the device, leading to a wavelength converted LED essentially only emitting converted light.

  • Publication number: 20110044026
Abstract: The invention provides an illumination device (10) comprising (a) a light emitting diode (LED), (b) a heat sink (85) and (c) a self-supporting grid (500). This grid (500) is arranged downstream of the LED (20) and arranged so as to be in contact with the heat sink 85. The self-supporting grid (500) comprises a plurality of grid structures (501) and a plurality of grid openings 502) between the grid structures (501). At least part of the total number of grid openings (502) encloses luminescent material (51), thereby providing luminescent material-filled grid openings (551). The luminescent material (51) is arranged to absorb at least part of the LED emission (21) and emit luminescent material emission (13). The LED (20) and the luminescent material (51) are arranged to provide light (115) of a predetermined color downstream of the self-supporting grid (500).

  • Publication number: 20100321641
Abstract: This invention relates to illumination systems for projection type display systems, and more particularly to a light module device comprising a light source, which emits light of a first color, and a pixelated optical element, which is arranged to receive the emitted light. The pixelated optical element comprises a first set of pixels for color converting a fraction of the emitted light of the first color into a second color, a second set of pixels for color converting a fraction of the emitted light of the first color to a third color, and a third set of pixels which are non-converting for passing a fraction of the emitted light. The device further comprises an addressable pixelated optical shutter arranged in front of the pixelated optical element for modulating light received from the pixelated optical element and as a result outputs light from said device, which output light comprises light of three colors which are modulated by the addressable pixelated optical shutter.

  • Publication number: 20100315604
Abstract: The invention relates to an illumination system (100), a projection device, and a color wheel (20, 22, 24). The illumination system comprises a light source comprising a first light-emitting unit (50) and a second light-emitting unit each emitting light towards a light output window (110). The illumination system comprises the color wheel comprising a plurality of color segments (R, G, B), a boundary between two adjacent color segment being a spoke (40). The first light-emitting unit, the second light-emitting unit and the spoke are configured for preventing the spoke when transiting the optical path (80) between the light source and the light output window to simultaneously transit a first optical path between the first light-emitting unit and the light output window and a second optical path between the second light-emitting unit and the light output window.
