Patent number: 9974989Abstract: A concealed sprinkler including a body having a proximal portion and a distal portion. The distal portion includes an annular wall defining a chamber and an opening in communication with the chamber. A deflector assembly is disposed within the chamber. A trigger assembly having a lever assembly engaged with an inner surface of the annular wall supports the deflector assembly in the first position, the trigger assembly including and a thermally rated plate assembly having a lip portion to substantially circumscribe and substantially cover opening and chamber.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 2013Date of Patent: May 22, 2018Assignee: Tyco Fire Products LPInventors: Bernhard Abels, Manuel R. Silva, Jr., Marcelo J. Chavez

Patent number: 9320930Abstract: A concealed-type sprinkler that includes a body having a proximal portion defining an opening and a distal portion defining an outlet. The body defines an internal passageway having an inlet and an outlet spaced apart along a longitudinal axis. The distal portion preferably includes an annular wall having an outer surface and an inner surface to further define a chamber distal of the outlet to house an internal component of the sprinkler. A cover plate assembly substantially conceals the chamber and includes a thermally responsive surface in communication with the chamber to actuate the sprinkler. The preferred sprinkler preferably includes a spacing member disposed between the annular wall and the cover plate assembly to define at least one aperture for communication between the chamber and the environment external to the sprinkler. An escutcheon is preferably disposed about the annular wall.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 2010Date of Patent: April 26, 2016Assignee: Tyco Fire Products LPInventors: Bernhard Abels, Manuel R. Silva, Jr., Marcelo J. Chavez

Patent number: 9174078Abstract: A residential sidewall sprinkler and system for a coverage area defined by a pair of parallel vertical walls. The sprinkler includes a body having a passageway defining a K-factor of about 6. The body has an inlet coupled to a fluid supply line and a distal end coupled to a deflector assembly. The deflector assembly includes a face portion with an upper canopy and a lower canopy disposed about the face portion. The sprinkler is mounted to one of the walls to define a ceiling-to-deflector distance ranging from about four inches to about twelve inches. The fluid supply at the inlet is at least at one of a substantially constant flow rate of fluid and substantially constant fluid pressure. The deflector assembly distributes the fluid over the coverage area so as to wet the vertical walls within about twenty-eight inches of the ceiling over the ceiling-to-deflector range.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 2007Date of Patent: November 3, 2015Assignee: Tyco Fire Products LPInventors: Michael A. Fischer, Marcelo J. Chavez, Timothy P. Hurley, Manuel R. Silva, Jr.

Patent number: 9089729Abstract: A fire protection device including a frame having a body with an inlet and an outlet disposed spaced along a longitudinal axis of a passageway. A pair of arms is disposed in a first plane parallel to the longitudinal axis and coupled to the body. A deflector assembly having a generally planar face portion is distally spaced from the outlet of the body and orthogonal to the longitudinal axis. The face portion includes two openings on opposite sides of a second plane perpendicular to the first plane. A canopy portion is supported on a first side of the first plane from the face portion. The deflector assembly includes a plurality of tines extending along the face portion on a second side of the first plane. Each of the tines have an outer edge disposed on a common circle centered along the longitudinal axis.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 2014Date of Patent: July 28, 2015Assignee: Tyco Fire Products LPInventors: Jose L. Almeida, Marcelo J. Chavez
