  • Patent number: 7364687
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of making a film, and to a die for making the film. The fluid die includes a fluid feed manifold connected to a housing having positioned therein at least one fluid feed channel in fluid communication with the fluid feed manifold. The housing also includes at least one profiling block within the fluid feed channel.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 27, 2004
Date of Patent: April 29, 2008
    Assignee: Tredegar Film Products Corp
Inventors: Andrew D. Maschino, Marcelo S. Copat
  • Publication number: 20040247833
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to a formed film made by first subjecting the film to vacuum to form macro-protuberances, or macro-apertures, and then contacting the film with fluid to form micro-protuberances in the film. The invention includes absorbent articles including the formed film, the improved formed films, and the method of making the formed films.

  • Publication number: 20040078015
Abstract: An absorbent article including at least one of a topsheet, an absorbent core, an optional distribution layer and a backsheet, at least one of which comprises at least one layer of an extruded superabsorbent web is disclosed. The superabsorbent webs can be made by heating and mixing blends of thermoplastic resins and absorbent polymers in a continuous process, and then preferably extruding the web. The extruded superabsorbent web can be flat or formed, stretched or unstretched, and coextruded or laminated with or to other materials.

  • Publication number: 20020133132
Abstract: A breathable absorbent article has at least one of a topsheet, an absorbent core, an optional distribution layer or a backsheet that comprises at least one to layer of a resilient, three dimensional liquid impervious polymeric film having apertures. The apertures form capillaries which are disposed at multiple directions, and/or have different diameters and lengths to create a response surface that is proportional to the pressure applied by the user's body, volume distribution of bodily fluid discharged by the user, the location of the discharge with respect to the position of the article, or a combination thereof, while the article is in use. The polymeric film can be formed by various processes, for example, vacuum forming or hydroforming methods.
