  • Patent number: 9211078
Abstract: A brain computer interface as an alternative communication channel to be used in various applications, such as robotics. In one embodiment of the invention, there is provided a process for the analysis and conversion of EEG signals obtained from the brain into movement commands through electric and/or mechanical devices. The process of the present invention provides substantial advantages over the similar systems/techniques known in the art, such as a 91% average hit rate, obtained in attempts to control a mobile robot. In other embodiment of the invention, there is provided an apparatus comprising: means for obtaining brain signals; an electroencephalograph (EEG); and means for transducing said signals into functional commands useful in several applications. Said means for transducing mental signals is the core of the invention and provides a number of technical advantages over the similar systems/techniques known in the art of identifying mental activities.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 3, 2010
Date of Patent: December 15, 2015
Assignee: Faculdades Católicas, a nonprofit association, maintainer of the Pontificia Universidade Católica of Rio de Janeiro
Inventors: Marco Antonio Meggiolaro, Alexandre Ormiga Galvao Barbosa

  • Patent number: 7798024
Abstract: A modular system used to visually inspect the interior of storage tanks and to simultaneously collect samples to analyze the products stored. The modular internal inspection system includes an assembly made up by a pneumatic controller (2), a pneumatic module (3), an interface module (4), a control module (5), an operation module (6), and several connection cables (7a, 7b, 7c). The system may be remotely operated and allows recording the images and the data collected during inspection. The modular internal tank inspection system is used in storage tanks (1) of any geometric configuration, normally found in industrial installations. Furthermore, because it is an intrinsically secure system, it may be used on tanks that store different types of liquid fuels, with no risk of explosion.
