  • Patent number: 9845775
Abstract: An intake assembly for an internal-combustion engine includes an intake duct for each cylinder, which communicates with an airbox that includes a filtering element. Each intake duct communicates with the airbox by a respective throttle body. A monitoring channel connects the intake ducts together and is configured for perturbing in a negligible way the dynamics of the fluid inside the intake ducts. Associated to said monitoring duct are sensors for monitoring the pressure inside the monitoring duct and designed to send signals indicating the value of pressure of the fluid taken in by the engine to an electronic control unit.

  • Patent number: 9429080
Abstract: A motor vehicle provided with an internal combustion engine having a system for variable actuation of the intake valves has a phase of activation of an operating mode with the engine off and the vehicle moving, in which the fuel supply to the engine is cut-off. After the cut-off of the fuel supply to the engine, the system for variable actuation of the intake valves is controlled to vary the opening time and/or closing time and/or the lift of the intake valves so as to control the losses due to the pumping effect which occur within the engine in cut-off condition.

  • Patent number: 9181914
Abstract: In a vehicle provided with a power propulsion system of the mild-hybrid type, a BAS unit—including an electric machine connected through a belt transmission to the shaft of an internal combustion engine—is exploited as the only propulsion engine of the vehicle in given operating conditions. The internal combustion engine is provided with a system for variable actuation of the intake valves which is controlled to reduce the pumping losses of the internal combustion engine in the phase in which such engine is in cut-off condition and it is driven by the aforementioned BAS unit. It is also provided for that the system for variable actuation of the intake valves be controlled to temporarily increase the pumping losses of the internal combustion engine in a phase in which it is required to accelerate the switching off of the engine.

  • Patent number: 9074519
Abstract: A new architecture of a combustion chamber for a diesel engine allows arranging the engine valves according to an axis inclined with respect to the cylinder axis by an angle greater than 8°, without reducing the swirl ratio obtained at the end of the compression stage.

  • Patent number: 8662034
Abstract: An engine comprises a system for variable actuation of the intake valves and is subdivided into a plurality of sub-systems independent with respect to each other, carried by a plurality of respective elements, each mounted on the cylinder head at a respective engine cylinder. Among other things, this considerably facilitates the system maintenance operations.

  • Patent number: 8572963
Abstract: A supercharged internal combustion engine includes a motor unit having a head and an exhaust manifold. A turbocharger assembly is fluid dynamically connected to the exhaust manifold, wherein the turbocharger assembly includes a turbine, a central body and a compressor. The turbocharger assembly includes a lubrication channel for the passage of a lubricating fluid hydraulically connected to a lubrication circuit of the motor unit of said internal combustion engine. The turbine includes a jacket, provided at least in part in a body thereof, arranged for the passage of a cooling fluid and in hydraulic communication with an inlet channel and an outlet channel hydraulically connected to a cooling circuit of the motor unit of said internal combustion engine. The inlet channel, outlet channel and lubrication channel are integrated in said turbocharger assembly in correspondence of a connection interface between said turbocharger assembly and the motor unit.

  • Publication number: 20130032107
Abstract: In a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine, provided with a system for variable actuation of the intake valves of the engine, the fuel injector associated to each engine cylinder is surrounded by a sealing casing which is part of a support body. The support body is mounted on the engine cylinder head with the interposition of a support surmounting the head and defining the seat in which the camshaft is received and it defines a sealing peripheral edge cooperating with a sealing cover which is mounted on the cylinder head. The cover has a general base plane sealingly mounted on the cylinder head or on the support. The sealing peripheral edge of each sealing casing is arranged in a parallel plane and raised with respect to the general base plane of the cover.
