  • Patent number: 8509146
Abstract: A communication system (100) is provided that comprises a Radio Access Network (110) having a Radio Network Controller (RNC) (114) coupled to each of a cellular Node B (112) and a Digital Broadcasting Video-Handhelds (DVB-H) Node B (120). When the communication system delivers low rate Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service (MBMS) user information, the user information is conveyed via the cellular Node B and a low data rate channel. When the communication system delivers high rate MBMS user information, the user information is conveyed via the DVB-H Node B and a high data rate channel. Thus the communication system provides high rate MBMS data services without imposing the system capacity constraints resulting from the employment of HSDPA by a cellular Node B.

  • Patent number: 7725717
Abstract: The invention provides for secure end-to-end user authentication by a remote server communicating with a communication device. The communication device further communicates with an authentication device, which provides a user authentication message to the communication device for forwarding to the remote server. The authentication device comprises a data store for storing user authentication credentials. A user authentication processor performs a local authentication of a user of the authentication device in response to a user input. An authentication processor generates the authentication message if the user authentication is valid. The authentication processor implements a cryptographic function based on the user authentication credentials. A transmitter then transmits the authentication message to the at least one communication device.

  • Publication number: 20080235185
Abstract: A communication system comprises a user equipment which may access a network via an access network element. Initially, the user equipment transmits a query message to a default network entry point which then contacts a home registration server for the user equipment. The home registration server determines an access network element determination server associated with a current location of the user equipment. The user equipment is informed of the access network element determination server and contacts this. In response, the access network element determination server determines a list of access network elements for the user equipment and transmits the list to the user equipment. The user equipment then registers for a communication service by accessing the network using a selected access network element selected from the list of access network elements. The invention may be particular suitable for accessing an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) via a Customer Premises Equipment (CPE).

  • Publication number: 20080235778
Abstract: An access network element provides user equipment access to a network comprising a centralised authentication server. The access network element comprises an authentication processor which authenticates the access network element at the centralised authentication server. In addition, the access network element authenticates a first user equipment in response to the authentication of the access network element by the centralised authentication server. A communication processor supports a peer-to-peer first communication session for the first user equipment and a peer-to-peer second communication session with a second access network element which supports a peer-to-peer communication session with a second user equipment. Peer-to-peer communication between the first and second user equipments is supported by exchanging data between the first communication session and the second communication session.

  • Publication number: 20080170699
Abstract: A method and device for managing a wireless resource are useful for securely transmitting data in a wireless communication network. The method includes receiving at a target wireless communication device an encrypted identification of a relaying wireless communication device, an encrypted payload decryption key, and an encrypted payload. The encrypted identification is then decrypted using an identification decryption key stored in a memory of the target wireless communication device, and the decrypted identification is used to authenticate the relaying wireless communication device. The encrypted payload decryption key is decrypted using a key decryption key stored in a memory of the target wireless communication device and a decryption algorithm stored in a memory of the target wireless communication device, which provides a decrypted payload decryption key. The encrypted payload is then decrypted using the decrypted payload decryption key.

  • Patent number: 6226278
Abstract: A system for radio communication with mobile stations, the system being of the type enabling one or more network operators to manage respective distinct networks. Each network is constituted by geographical cells and has mobile stations travelling therethrough. Each cell of a given network is associated with a base station through which those mobile stations that are located in the cell and that are subscribers with the operator managing the given network can communicate. In its own network, each operator transmits a pilot data channel supplying each mobile station with pilot data enabling it specifically to log-on to the network. According to the invention, the system further comprises a super-network made up of geographical super-cells each associated with a super-basestation. Each super-basestation transmits a data signal carrying the pilot data channel of the, or each, operator.

  • Patent number: 6226281
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of controlling the transmission power of terminals in a CDMA type cellular network. According to the invention, when the transmission power of a number n1 of terminals is authorized to be increased by a total amount P dB, a number n2 of terminals benefitting from better quality of transmission in the up direction are requested to decrease their total transmission power by P dB. This makes it possible to conserve interference at a constant level in the transmission network, either within a single cell, or within a group of cells.

  • Patent number: 5809456
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and to equipment for coding and decoding a sampled speech signal. It belongs to systems used in speech processing, in particular for compression of speech information. The method is based upon a time/frequency description and on a representation of the prototype as a fundamental period of a periodic waveform; moreover the excitation of the synthesis filter is carried out through a single, phase-adapted pulse.

  • Patent number: 5197021
Abstract: A system for calculating the discrete cosine transform of dimension M*M which is orthogonal and separable under the form of two monodimensional transforms calculated by a fast algorithm, by operating on incoming and outgoing words, in the form of parallel bits, and by operating on the data internally in the system in words represented by 2M bits. The operations of addition and subtraction between variable data and the operations of multiplying by the variable data using fixed coefficients are made on the data represented in the form of M couples of serialized bits, so that the speed of the incoming and outgoing words, in the form of words of parallel bits, is equal to the speed of bit couples that represent the internal data.
