The method comprises the following steps: the safety control unit (26) receives an update package including a firmware update for the door control unit (22) and/or for the drive unit (20), the safety control unit (26) initiates an update process of the firmware of the door control unit (22) and/or the drive unit (20) from a deprecated firmware to the current firmware, and the safety control unit (26) controls the update process and, if an abort condition is detected during the update process, the safety control unit (26) sets the door control unit (22) and/or the drive unit (20) back to the deprecated firmware.
