    Abstract: The present invention refers to a method for producing SiC, and particularly high-purity SiC, comprising the steps of (a) providing a mixture comprising at least one saccharide, silica and a solvent in a reactor, (b) heating the mixture provided in step (a) to a temperature T1 ranging from 200° C. to 600° C. and (c) heating the mixture obtained in step (b) in an inert gas atmosphere to a temperature T2 ranging from 1600-2000° C. Particularly, the present method might provide SiC in the form of a monocrystal. Further, the present invention refers to apparatuses for use in the method of the present invention.
