  • Patent number: 9409133
Abstract: An assembly for the production of dispersions including a mixing unit (7) and a circulation tank (1) for holding liquid, the mixing unit (7) including a first solid inlet (8) for receiving a solid, a second liquid inlet for receiving the liquid, a mixing chamber where the liquid and solid are mixed, and a return outlet (13), the liquid inlet is fluidly connected to the circulation tank (1) such that liquid in the circulation tank flows to the mixing unit (7) via a circulation tank outlet (4), the return outlet (15) transferring the combined liquid and solid from the mixing chamber (7) into the circulation tank (1) via a circulation tank inlet. The circulation tank has an interior height which is configured such that a chamber exists inside the tank above the level of the liquid. Alternatively, the circulation tank inlet is permanently positioned above the liquid level or it includes a pipe configured such that the dispersion forms a film on its inner surface.

  • Patent number: 6156253
Abstract: A process for preparing fibers from an optically anisotropic solution containing either one of cellulose or cellulose derivatives by extruding the solution through a non-corroding spinneret and coagulating the resulting extrudates in a coagulant, the coagulant being a liquid which contains mostly water and to which cations have been added.

  • Patent number: 6140497
Abstract: A spinnable, isotropic solution containing cellulose, phosphoric acid and/or anhydrides of phosphoric acid and water is prepared by dissolving cellulose in a solvent, the solvent being a homogeneous mixture of water and at least one of phosphoric acid and anhydrides of phosphoric acid such that the solvent contains 72-85 wt. % of phosphorous pentoxide, P.sub.2 O.sub.5. The cellulose is mixed with the solvent in a mixing apparatus, the mixing apparatus having mixers, kneaders or the like, and capable of generating high shearing forces. The solution is converted from anisotropic phase to isotropic phase by the addition of water. The water required to convert the solution to the isotropic phase is added either just prior to, during or after the mixing step. The solvent preferably contains 72-80 wt. % P.sub.2 O.sub.5 and 7-20 wt. % of cellulose, and is used to make hollow fibers, membranes, non-woven films, and other articles requiring the use of cellulose-containing solutions.

  • Patent number: 6068919
Abstract: Cellulose fibres and filaments are prepared from a spinnable, cellulose-containing solution containing 94-100 wt. % cellulose, water, and phosphoric acid and/or anhydrides of phosphoric acid. The resulting cellulose fibres and filaments have an elongation break point greater than 7%. The cellulose-containing solution used to prepare the fibres and filaments may be either isotropic or anisotropic. The cellulose-containing solution is coagulated in a liquid containing water and cations, and the cations are preferably monovalent. Fibres and filaments prepared in this manner are especially suitable for use in textiles.
