  • Patent number: 9470594
Abstract: A differential capacitive pressure sensor of an embodiment of the present invention has first and second diaphragms positioned on opposing sides of a single substrate. Each diaphragm of the pressure transducer is configured to be exposed to a transient fluid, with the first and second pressure transducers being arranged with their respective deflection surfaces directed outwardly from each other. The differential capacitive pressure sensor may be configured to output representations of differential and common mode pressure of the transient fluids, where a representation of a common mode is cancelled in generating the representation of the differential pressure. The transient fluids may be the same fluid at different locations within a flow path. The diaphragms may be constructed from a ceramic material to be able to withstand exposure to corrosive or caustic fluids.

  • Patent number: 9383283
Abstract: A capacitive pressure transducer of an embodiment of the present invention capacitively couples two electrodes on a substrate with a diaphragm electrode to form a transducing circuit without the need for a physical connection between the electrodes. Embodiments of the present invention have a substrate with a coupling electrode and a sensing electrode and an attached diaphragm with a diaphragm electrode. A spacer positioned between the substrate and the diaphragm provides for a cavity that defines a gap between the sensing electrode and the diaphragm electrode. A dielectric spacer may be positioned over the coupling electrode to increase the capacitance between the coupling electrode and the diaphragm electrode. The capacitive pressure transducer has similar electrical characteristics as existing capacitive pressure transducers, is easier to manufacture, and has long-term reliability and durability improvements brought about by the elimination of mechanical interconnects and additional conductive materials.

  • Publication number: 20090061597
Abstract: A method for the singulation of hybrid circuits from a pre-scribed plate containing hybrid circuits or made of other brittle materials. The method includes the steps of providing a platen used to support the hybrid plate and which has a surface comprised of a series of sections each angled downward from its adjacent section, aligning the plate on the platen so that the scribe lines align with the surface discontinuities at the angles between the sections, securing the plate to the platen with vacuum pressure, creating a pressure differential between a space above the plate and a space below the plate, and applying the pressure differential to sequentially break the plate along the pre-scribed lines by forcing the plate against the angles.

  • Publication number: 20040178345
Abstract: A highly efficient position or liquid level sensing system includes a central fluorescent fiber or rod, a transparent support for mounting the fluorescent fiber preferably in a liquid container or tank, and a float or other movable member extending around the fluorescent fiber for movement relative to the fiber. Light is directed from one end of the fluorescent fiber parallel to and around the fiber; and the side of the float or movable member facing the light reflects the incident light inward toward the fluorescent fiber. A first detector receives radiation from one end of the fiber. Detectors may be provided at both ends of the fiber, and the two outputs may be combined sustractively to provide a substantially linear signal output relative to the position of the float or movable member.

  • Patent number: 6553812
Abstract: A combined oil quality and fuel contamination sensing system includes a capacitive dielectric sensor and pressure sensing arrangements for measuring the dielectric constant of the oil and the pressure of the oil, respectively, with the oil pressure being indicative of oil viscosity and contamination. The sensors take measurements as oil flows through an internal combustion engine and provide an indication of the cause of a problem with oil in an engine. The system may also include a microcomputer and circuitry for generating an indication of dielectric constant and circuitry for generating an indication of the presence of contaminants within the engine. The system may also include an additional sensor measuring the temperature of oil within the system to adjust oil dielectric constant and viscosity indications. The capacitive dielectric sensor constitute the principal restriction in the flow path between an input high pressure sensing port and an outlet low pressure port.

  • Patent number: 6279407
Abstract: A combined mechanical linkage and force-measuring assembly includes a central capacitive force sensor, in which force applied to the sensor causes the flexing of a diaphragm toward and away from a substrate, and a change in the capacitance between two conductive surfaces on the diaphragm and the substrate is sensed and processed to indicate the direction and magnitude of the force applied to the linkage. The linkage may have two parts coupled together by a flange which flexes under applied forces, to change the spacing of the conductive surfaces.
