  • Publication number: 20150262255
Abstract: Methods and systems for integrating images with the associated text-based content signals and data about users' preferences to determine an image or user intent. Methods and implementations for monetizing these images is also described.

  • Patent number: 8548790
Abstract: A mechanism is provided for determining fragmentation in a computing environment. A simulation of virtual machine requests for resources in the computing environment is run for a predetermined time. The simulation is scaled down when the predetermined time exceeds a threshold. The scaling down includes scaling down the resources in the computing environment and/or scaling down a number of the virtual machine requests. The scaled down simulation is run iteratively to estimate relative fragmentation of the virtual machine requests against the resources in the computing environment.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 7, 2011
Date of Patent: October 1, 2013
    Assignee: International Business Machines Corporation
    Inventor: Marcus A. Tylutki
  • Patent number: 8533523
Abstract: A method for recovering data when corrupted data from a source is detected includes identifying data corrupted as a result of using the corrupted data by tracing propagation of the corrupted data to provide identified corrupted data, and repairing the identified corrupted data to provide repaired data. The propagation of the corrupted data is traced from one domain to another. Data in both domains is repaired. A wrapper is provided for the source. Calls into and out of the source are intercepted by the wrapper. Calls of a plurality of different domains are intercepted by the wrapper. A wrapper is provided for a process. External service calls of the process are intercepted by the wrapper. The wrapper recreates a process flow followed by the process in accordance with the corrupted data. A wrapper is provided for a database. Accesses of the database are intercepted by the wrapper.

  • Patent number: 8108857
Abstract: A computer system determines an optimal hardware system environment for a given set of workloads by allocating functionality from each workload to logical partitions, where each logical partition includes resource demands, assigning a priority weight factor to each resource demand, configuring potential hardware system environments, where each potential hardware system environment provides resource capacities, and computing a weighted sum of least squares metric for each potential hardware system environment.

  • Patent number: 7668952
Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for controlling a processing system. The apparatus to control a processing system is provided with a plurality of modules configured to functionally execute the necessary steps of controlling a processing system. These modules in the described embodiments include a data acquisition module that acquires performance data for a processing system, a data analysis module that calculates the slope between adjacent data points, a data normalization module that normalizes the data and computes a second order difference between the calculated slopes, a performance analysis module that determines the performance value that corresponds to the maximum calculated slope, a performance comparison module that sets a preferred performance threshold, and a performance control module that controls the processing system to achieve the preferred performance threshold.
