  • Patent number: 9798935
Abstract: A method is described for determining a body parameter of a person outside a vehicle. The method may include capturing a first set of data of the person by a first data capturing device of the vehicle, the captured first set of data representative of a first body posture of the person, capturing a second set of data of the person by a second data capturing device of the vehicle, the captured second set of data representative of a second body posture of the person different from the first body posture, and using the first and second sets of data as input for estimation of the body parameter of the person. Use of a data capturing device of a vehicle is also described, and optionally a distance measurement system of the vehicle, for determining a body parameter of a person according to the method.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: October 24, 2017
    Assignee: Volvo Car Corporation
Inventors: Andreas Sandahl, David De Val, Birgit Klinton Kaamark, Magnus Baeckelie, Marcus Rothoff
  • Patent number: 9090286
Abstract: A method for assisting a user to displace a vehicle to a target position is disclosed. The method may include activating an assistance mode, detecting an external force applied to the vehicle by the user, determining a displacement torque based on the external force, and displacing the vehicle toward the target position by applying the displacement torque using a vehicle propulsion system. A system for assisting a user to displace a vehicle to a target position is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6591677
Abstract: A system for detecting the loading of a vehicle including at least one accelerometer in a first position and arranged in gravitational acceleration in the preferred direction may be used as a reference value for the accelerometer. The accelerometer related to detect the deviation of acceleration relative to said reference value, and said deviation is related to the loading of the vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20030061859
Abstract: The invention relates to a calibration method for a system with at least two accelerometers (5), comprising the steps of arranging said accelerometers fixed on a vehicle (1), connecting said accelerometers (5) to a control unit and providing said vehicle (1) on a reference plane (11). The reference plane (11) has a known propagation angle to be used as a reference relative to which an offset value of each accelerometer (5) is established. Said offset value of each accelerometer is stored in said control unit. The invention also relates to a calibrated accelerometer system and a vehicle (1) provided with said system.

  • Publication number: 20020144543
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a detecting system for detecting the loading of a vehicle (1), the detecting system comprising at least one accelerometer (5) in a first position and arranged in a predefined direction on said vehicle (1), in which the gravitational acceleration in said predefined direction may be used as a reference value for the accelerometer (5). The accelerometer (5) is arranged to detect the deviation of acceleration relative to said reference value, and said deviation is related to the loading of said vehicle (1).
