  • Patent number: 8794720
Abstract: A method to limit overheating of a brake equipped with an electromechanically actuable parking brake including the steps of: driving a threaded spindle by an electric motor until a power drain (Imax), corresponding to a brake application force (F), is reached; detection of a travel distance (x0) of the piston corresponding to the brake application force (F) of the brake caliper in a locked state; determination of a second travel distance (x1) by adding a further travel distance value (x11), which corresponds to the desired clearance value, to form (x0); driving of the electric motor until the second travel distance (x1) has been covered by the brake piston; and comparing the vehicle speed with a predefined first speed value, at the upward transgression of which the electric motor is driven once more in the release direction until a further, previously defined travel distance (x12) has been covered.

  • Patent number: 8684147
Abstract: A combined vehicle brake which has a hydraulically actuable service brake and an electromechanically actuable parking brake device, a hydraulic service pressure space being delimited in a brake housing by a brake piston which can be acted upon by hydraulic pressure medium in order to execute service braking operations, so that the brake piston can be actuated along a piston longitudinal axis in order to achieve a braking action, and the parking brake device acting on the brake piston by a gear, in that the gear converts the rotational movement of an electromechanical actuator into a translational movement and causes an actuation of the brake piston in order to execute parking braking operations and holds the said brake piston in the actuated position, the gear having a threaded spindle and a threaded nut which are in contact with one another via a plurality of rolling bodies.

  • Patent number: 8616348
Abstract: A combined vehicle brake including a hydraulically actuated service brake and an electromechanically actuated parking brake device, a hydraulic operating pressure chamber in a brake housing being defined by a brake piston, which for performing service braking actions can be acted upon by hydraulic pressure fluid, so that the brake piston can be actuated along a piston longitudinal axis in order to produce a braking action, and the parking brake device acting on the brake piston by way of a transmission that translates the rotary motion of an electromechanical actuator into a translational motion and actuates the brake piston to perform parking brake actions and to keep it in the actuated position. Also disclosed is a transmission for translating a rotary motion into a translational motion by way of a screw spindle and a spindle nut, which are in contact with one another by way of multiple rolling elements.

  • Patent number: 8397879
Abstract: A parking brake having an actuator, wherein the actuator is driven by a direct current motor which can be operated in two directions. The actuator moves, via a self-locking gear mechanism of the actuator, at least one brake shoe for applying or releasing the parking brake in the direction of a rotary element or away therefrom. A control unit for performing open-loop or closed-loop control of the movement of the direct current motor is also provided. The parking brake is designed such that, when the parking brake is applied or released, an application point of the brake shoes against the rotary element is generally overshot.

  • Patent number: 8395778
Abstract: A soot number determining device has an intake line for taking in a soot-containing gas through a filter paper that has been introduced into the intake line. A transport apparatus transports a soot spot, which is produced at an intake position by virtue of the gas being taken in on the filter paper, by transporting the filter paper further to an evaluation position. A device is used to determine the extent of blackening of the filter paper.

  • Patent number: 7992691
Abstract: A parking brake having an actuator, wherein the actuator is driven with a direct current motor which can be operated in two directions and which moves a piston of the actuator and, via a self-locking gear mechanism of the actuator, at least one brake shoe for applying or releasing the parking brake. A control unit for performing open-loop or closed-loop control of the movement of the direct current motor is also provided. During open-loop or closed-loop control of the movement of the direct current motor for applying and/or releasing the parking brake, the control unit takes into account a hydraulic admission pressure which is currently present at the piston if the brake is applied or was present at the piston if the brake has been released when it had previously been applied. A corresponding method for operating such a parking brake is also disclosed.
