Patent number: 11067297Abstract: A method and apparatus for cooling a supply of air is provided. A unit controller receives a cooling demand signal. In response to the cooling demand signal, the unit controller adjusts an economizer according to an economizing function. The economizing function is configured to achieve an initial free cooling target temperature as a discharge air temperature. The unit controller receives an additional cooling demand signal. In response to the additional cooling demand signal, the unit controller reduces the free cooling target temperature. The unit controller adjusts the economizer according to the economizing function, with the economizing function configured to achieve the reduced free cooling target temperature as the discharge air temperature. Additionally in response to the additional cooling demand signal, the unit controller signals a unit to perform mechanical cooling on a supply of air received from the economizer.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 2017Date of Patent: July 20, 2021Assignee: Lennox Industries Inc.Inventors: Herman Marcus Thomas, Marcus Troxell, Stephen A. Patent number: 10655877Abstract: According to certain embodiments, a system comprises a controller and an HVAC system with components comprising an evaporator unit comprising an evaporator coil, an indoor fan, and a discharge air duct and a condenser unit comprising a compressor, a condenser coil, and an outdoor fan. The system is configured to determine that a first or a second level of evaporator coil freeze risk is present and to communicate an instruction to the HVAC system with a first or a second action to counteract the freeze risk. For example, in certain embodiments, the actions comprise changing the indoor fan speed, changing the compressor speed, and changing the outdoor fan speed.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 2018Date of Patent: May 19, 2020Assignee: Lennox Industries Inc.Inventors: Wenqian Liu, Zer Kai Yap, Marcus Troxell, William Clay Toombs

Patent number: 10571149Abstract: In an embodiment, a circuit for providing a mixed air temperature signal is provided. The circuit has a temperature input to an economizer controller, an air temperature sensor, a false air temperature device, and a switching device. The switching device has a switch and a switch actuating device. The switch connects the temperature input to the air temperature sensor when the switch is in a first state. The switch connects the temperature input to the false air temperature device when the switch is in a second state. The switch actuating device places the switch in the first state when a mechanical cooling signal is not sent. The switch actuating device places the switch in the second state when the mechanical cooling signal is sent.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 2017Date of Patent: February 25, 2020Assignee: Lennox Industries Inc.Inventors: Marcus Troxell, Michael Renker

Patent number: 10168082Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for compressor units in HVAC systems. A slide plate and slide rail assembly is described that can allow compressors to be slidably removed or adjusted to allow for easy repair or servicing. Instead of disassembling an entire compressor unit when repairs are needed on it or on neighboring components, the compressor unit can be quickly moved. Dual slide rail and slide plate configurations are described as well.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 2015Date of Patent: January 1, 2019Assignee: LENNOX INDUSTRIES INC.Inventors: Marcus Troxell, Geoffrey Curtis, Miguel Montemayor, Harold Gene Havard, Jr.
