  • Patent number: 7097484
Abstract: The sealing element consisting entirely of elastomer is plugged onto the head plate of a piezo actuator for a fuel injection valve. Encircling sealing bulges (6) are formed on the first end of the sealing element and effect a sealing toward the injector body (2). The sealing element has passages for accommodating contact pins (7), whereby sealing lips (8) are formed around the passages in order to seal the contact pins (7). The sealing actions of the sealing bulges (6) and of the sealing lips (8) are separate from one another.

  • Publication number: 20060121767
Abstract: Subsequent to their placement on a housing, known connection devices (e.g. contact stud carriers) are often not in a location that is exactly defined. A connection device which ensures significant positional accuracy in a simple manner has a locating face (22) which is laterally offset and extends essentially tangentially relative to an insertion section (16). The locating face interacts with a corresponding locating face of the housing in an anti-rotational manner when the insertion section (16) is inserted in a housing opening. The locating face (22) of the connection device (10) is formed both inelastically and elastically (28) at locating face areas (24, 26) which are opposite to each other. This allows a “backlash-free” interaction between the corresponding locating faces and, therefore, a particularly accurate positional definition.

  • Publication number: 20060038032
Abstract: A sealing arrangement of a piezoelectric actuator comprises terminal posts (14) projecting from the piezoelectric actuator and a metallic top arrangement (18, 22), provided with openings (28) allowing the passage of the terminal posts (14) which is emplaced on the piezoelectric actuator. In order to facilitate reliable sealing in particular also for comparatively thin top plates (18), the invention provides for emplacing on terminal post sections (30) projecting from the openings (28) a sealing element (32) which is formed from an electrically insulating and sealing material and which is positioned tight against, on the one hand, circumferential areas (34) of the terminal post sections (30) and, on the other hand, the top arrangement (18, 22), with an insulating disk (40) provided with openings allowing the passage of the terminal posts (14) and made of electrically insulating material being located between the sealing element (32) and the top arrangement (18, 22).

  • Publication number: 20060038031
Abstract: In the case of a fuel injector comprising an injector housing arrangement (44, 46) which accommodates a piezo-drive, whereby the piezo-drive has a piezo-actuator which is accommodated in a piezo-housing arrangement that has a cover arrangement (12, 14) provided with openings (16) for the penetration of protruding terminal pins (10) of the piezo-actuator, the following is provided: a sealing arrangement comprising a sealing element (24) formed from a liquid-tight material, the sealing element, on the one hand, fitting tightly against the circumferential areas of the terminal pins (10) and, on the other hand, tightly against the cover arrangement (12, 14), and a ventilation arrangement (40, 42) that promotes an exchange of gas between the outside of the injector housing arrangement (44, 46) and the outside of the sealing element (24).

  • Publication number: 20060037579
Abstract: A seal (10) for a piezo-actuator of a fuel injector with terminal posts (12) projecting out of the piezo-actuator and a head arrangement (14) mounted on the piezo-actuator with openings (16) for passage of the terminal posts (12) is particularly suitable even for comparatively thin head plates. A sealing unit (18) mounted on the head arrangement (14) and provided with openings for passage of the terminal posts (12) is provided, having a support (22), on which a sealing material (26) is arranged, which is in contact in a sealing manner with the peripheral surfaces of the terminal posts (12) and a peripheral region of the head arrangement (14) and in which an element (20) made of microporous material is integrated to create gas permeability.

  • Publication number: 20060040537
Abstract: A device (10) has a contact surface (22) arranged laterally offset and essentially extending tangentially in relation to an insertion section (16), which, on introduction of the insertion section (16) into a housing opening, interoperates with a corresponding contact surface of the housing providing torsional stability, with the contact surface (22) of the connecting device (10) being embodied at areas of the contact surface tangentially opposite one another in each case with a plastic deformable contact surface projection (24) and/or the circumferential area of the insertion section having an annular closed area of the cylindrical surface on which a number of elastic, sprung, centering projections (20), projecting radially from the area of the cylindrical surface are provided which are arranged at intervals from one another around the circumference. This makes possible a functionally-optimized and tight-fitting interoperation between the corresponding contact surfaces.

  • Publication number: 20060038030
Abstract: In order to increase the lifetime for a piezoactuator of a fuel injector and to make possible a reliable seal of the piezoactor especially for comparatively thin head plates as well a gas exchange passage running through an actuator housing (52, 54) is provided, where a sealing unit (2) placed on the head arrangement (16, 18) is provided for sealing the piezoactor (12) which features a carrier (28) on which a sealing material (30) is arranged which forms a seal around the piezo contact pins (14) and the head arrangement (16, 18) and on which a microporous gas exchanger (26) to create gas permeability of the sealing unit (24) is integrated such that any fluid which has penetrated through to the gas exchanger (26) can flow out of the gas exchanger (26) under the force of gravity.

  • Publication number: 20060040551
Abstract: In a method and arrangement for sealing a piezoactuator having terminal pins (12) protruding from the piezoactuator and a top plate (14) surmounting the piezoactuator, the top plate is provided with openings (16) to enable the terminal pins (12) to pass through. In order to ensure a reliable seal even for comparatively thin top plates (16) in particular, the invention proposes placing an O-ring (28) made from an elastic sealant material on each of the terminal pin sections (30) protruding from the openings (16), so that said O-ring fits tightly to a circumferential surface (32) of the terminal pin section (30), as well as to the top plate (14), forming a seal, and being pressure-injected into the top plate (14) by means of a plastic extrusion coating (arrows in FIG. 1).
