  • Patent number: 11285239
Abstract: Improved skin-adhesive compositions for bonding a substrate, such as an absorbent article, to skin are disclosed. More particularly, the skin-adhesive composition has an improved, yet gentle, adhesion to the skin of a user, while maintaining strong, effective bonding to various inanimate, non-skin substrates. In one embodiment, the skin-adhesive composition can provide one or more skin benefit agents to the user. The skin-adhesive composition may be applied to an absorbent article, such as a panty-liner, sanitary napkin, or an incontinence article, for directly adhering the article to the skin of a user.

  • Patent number: 9011625
Abstract: An elastic nonwoven composite that contains an elastic film laminated to one or more nonwoven web materials is provided. The composite is formed by passing the film through a nip to bond the film to the nonwoven web material(s). Concurrent with bond formation, apertures are also formed in the elastic film. The apertures are of a size sufficient to provide a desired level of texture, softness, hand feel, and/or aesthetic appeal to the composite without having a significant adverse effect on its elastic properties. Aperture and bond formation are accomplished in the present invention by selectively controlling certain parameters of the lamination process, such as film content, bonding pattern, degree of film tension, bonding conditions, etc.

  • Patent number: 5429629
Abstract: An absorbent article includes a retention portion for storing absorbed liquids, and a distinctive surge management portion. The surge management portion, which has a selected basis weight, is constructed to rapidly uptake and temporarily hold at least three (3) successive surges of liquid directed into the target zone of the article and then release each of the surges to the retention portion. The retention portion desorbs each input of liquid from the surge management portion and stores the liquid. Particular functional and structural parameters can further characterize the surge management portion of the absorbent article.

  • Patent number: 4710185
Abstract: An absorbent article (20) for proximate contact with a mammalian body adapted to receive a fluid containing discharge therefrom, includes an absorbent member (22) bearing a body-side cover (26) comprising a foraminous net (30) having a generally reticular network (32, 34) of polymeric filaments (36, 38). The net is comprised of two arrays of filaments oriented at a displacement angle ("a") in the range of 20.degree.-90.degree.. The cover is characterized by a basis weight of about 0.5-5.0 osy, a caliper of about 5-25 mils, an open area of about 30%-60% and a mesh of about 20-40. Individual filaments may have a size in the range of about 3-12 mils and may be superimposed or interlaid into the network.
