  • Patent number: 10217157
Abstract: Personalized services often utilize individual profiles, such as social network profiles, product purchase histories, or browsing histories. Presented herein are techniques for adapting personalized services to request supplemental individual information only within a current familiarity stage that has been established by the individual with the service, and only to provide a requested usage of a service. Such solicitation may inform the individual of the intended usage of the requested information. Usages that may involve more sensitive information may be predicated upon requesting and receiving individual consent from the individual to advance to a higher familiarity stage.

  • Publication number: 20160092773
Abstract: In many computing scenarios, individual profiles are generated from facts specified by, observed about, and/or inferred about individuals, and may be used to personalize services to such individual. Such facts may include details provoking a sensitivity of an individual, and it may be undesirable to reveal the collection and use of such facts to the individual; however, such facts may also enable accurately personalized service. These considerations may be balanced by partitioning the individual profile into a foreground profile, comprising facts that are revealed to the individual, and a background profile, comprising facts that are collected about but not revealed to the individual. Services may be covertly personalized for the individual based on the sensitive information stored in the background profile (e.g., restaurant recommendations that are overtly recommended based on the current location of the individual, and also covertly selected based on an inferred income level of the individual).

  • Publication number: 20140379521
Abstract: The aggregation of facts from various sources about an individual may produce an individual profile that may inform personalized services. However, a compilation of facts may be supplemented by monitoring activities of the individual and formulating inferences regarding the individual's individual details, and the confidence of such inferences. Accordingly, a device may compare the detected activities with a behavioral rule set indicating correlations between activities and inferred individual details (e.g., frequently spent weekday evenings and morning departures from a residence imply that the residence is the individual's home; frequent bicycling to work, chosen over other available modes of transportation, implies that the individual is a bicycling enthusiast) to add inferred individual details to the individual profile. Continued monitoring may enable updating based on changes to the individual details.

  • Publication number: 20120198336
Abstract: A UI including a “Guide,” presenting a list of videos, having data fields relating to each entry, possibly including multiple data values for a single data field. When focusing on a single entry, the focused-upon entry is expanded and emphasized. The focused-upon entry is highlighted and centered, while other entries have lesser highlighting and centering. When a data field is selected, the focused-upon data field is emphasized (by highlighting, repositioning, or resizing), while other entries have lesser emphasis. Display changes might appear after a brief delay, or in response to further user command. When entries are sorted on selected data fields, entries with multiple data values for those fields are replicated, and the sorting letter is highlighted. The user can move individually down the list of entries, or skip to the next section with a different data value for a selected field.
