  • Publication number: 20140155944
Abstract: Atraumatic fasteners involving flexible membranes and tensioning means can be used in conjunction with one or more plates, other fastener types of other materials, particularly locked cannulated screws-plate interfaces providing improved capture and restraint of articular and/or juxta-articular bone fragments. A method of securing bone fragments includes securing or capturing a fragment, at least in part, with an atraumatic foldable and/or expandable device which can be inserted “inside out”, that is, the expandable form is inserted through a channel which has been created in the bone or tissue, from the opposite side of the bone or tissue fragment.

  • Patent number: 8652183
Abstract: The disclosed fasteners have a substantially cylindrical expansion head to secure the fastener in a support structure. The expansion fastener has a removable locking ring, a head, and a shaft extending from the distal end of the head. The exterior of the head has at least one slot extending from the edge toward the distal end. The slots can extend partially or fully to the base of the head. In one embodiment the locking ring has at least one tab that extends beyond the periphery and a tool receiving area. In one embodiment a channel having wall periphery reduction area receives a locking ring with tabs which, when rotated to contact the reduction areas expand the head. In another embodiment the locking ring has a threaded periphery that interacts with a reduced diameter threaded periphery within the head to expand the exterior of the head.

  • Patent number: 5935128
Abstract: The invention is directed to an orthopaedic template system for use with a bone (14) having a shaft and a bearing surface at an end of the shaft. A first template (30) is attachable to the bone end adjacent to the bearing surface, and includes a first saw guide surface or slot (40). A joint locator (10) is used to position the first template (30) relative to the bearing surface. A second template (50) is pivotally attachable to the first template (30), whereby the second template (50) may be selectively positioned at one of a plurality of angular orientations relative to the first template. A third template (70) includes a second saw guide surface or slot (78), and is attachable to the first template (30) at a plurality of locations (72, 74, 76), whereby the second saw guide slot (78) may be selectively positioned relative to the first saw guide slot (40).

  • Patent number: 5853413
Abstract: The invention is directed to a wrist fusion plate 10 configured to extend over a carpus area and position at least one metacarpal relative to a radius. The wrist fusion plate includes a saddle portion 36 which is placed over the carpus area. A proximal end 38 extending from the saddle portion and attachable to the radius defines a first longitudinal axis. A distal end 40 extending from the saddle portion and attachable to one of the metacarpals defines a second longitudinal axis. The second longitudinal axis is not axially aligned relative to the first longitudinal axis in a medial-lateral direction.

  • Patent number: 5549690
Abstract: A method for modeling a prosthetic CMC thumb joint, and the joint manufactured therefrom, involves anatomically locating the two non-perpendicular and non-intersecting axes of rotation for the joint. The surface of revolution about these two axes, which is a torus, is then used to mathematically model the bearing surfaces of the prosthetic joint.
