Publication number: 20180125501Abstract: Devices and methods for treating vascular defects, such as, for example, balloon-type aneurysms, are described herein. In one embodiment, an apparatus includes an insertion portion and an expandable implant. The expandable implant is configured to be deployed in an aneurysm and is coupled to the insertion portion. The expandable implant has a first portion and a second portion coupled to the first portion. The expandable implant is movable between a first configuration in which the first portion and the second portion are substantially linearly aligned and a second configuration in which the second portion at least partially overlaps the first portion.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 5, 2017Publication date: May 10, 2018Inventors: Maria Aboytes, Arturo Rosqueta

Patent number: 9931495Abstract: In some embodiments, a medical device for recanalizing a vessel having a blockage and restoring blood flow through an obstructed blood vessel includes an expandable member coupled to a core wire and a hypotube that are movable relative to each other to manipulate the expandable member between various configurations. The expandable member having a capture structure in an expanded configuration. The expandable member can include multiple interstices formed by woven mesh filaments or braided strands through which the material blocking the vessel can pass. The capture structure can include a shape on its external surface that facilitates dislodgement and capture of the material within capture spaces created by the expandable member. Some embodiments include a capture sack or cap for capturing material and preventing material from migrating down stream of the blockage. Superoxygenated blood can be infused distal to the blockage to minimize loss of function during an ischemic event.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 2015Date of Patent: April 3, 2018Assignee: COVIDIEN LPInventor: Maria Aboytes

Publication number: 20180036012Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods for treating vascular defects are disclosed herein. One aspect of the present technology, for example, is directed toward an occlusion device that includes a proximal portion, a distal portion, and an intermediate portion extending between the proximal portion and the distal portion. The distal portion can include a directing region and a lead-in member that extends distally from the directing region. When the occlusion device is in a deployed configuration, the intermediate portion can form a preset bend in the occlusion device that positions the directing region at an angle with respect to the proximal portion. As a result, as the occlusion device is pushed distally out of a delivery catheter into the aneurysm, the directing region directs the distal portion away from exiting the aneurysm through the neck such that the proximal portion crosses the neck and generally remains within the aneurysm.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 4, 2016Publication date: February 8, 2018Inventors: Maria Aboytes, Arturo Rosqueta, Erik Engelson, Scott Wilson

Publication number: 20160113713Abstract: Catheter apparatuses, systems, and methods for achieving renal neuromodulation by intravascular access are disclosed herein. One aspect of the present technology, for example, is directed to a treatment device having a multi-electrode array configured to be delivered to a renal blood vessel. The array is selectively transformable between a delivery or low-profile state (e.g., a generally straight shape) and a deployed state (e.g., a radially expanded, generally helical shape). The multi-electrode array is sized and shaped so that the electrodes or energy delivery elements contact an interior wall of the renal blood vessel when the array is in the deployed (e.g., helical) state. The electrodes or energy delivery elements are configured for direct and/or indirect application of thermal and/or electrical energy to heat or otherwise electrically modulate neural fibers that contribute to renal function or of vascular structures that feed or perfuse the neural fibers.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 4, 2015Publication date: April 28, 2016Inventors: Vincent Ku, Robert Beetel, Andrew Wu, Denise Zarins, Maria Aboytes

Publication number: 20140107575Abstract: This is a balloon catheter having at least two lumens. One of the lumens is a large working lumen. The balloon catheter is especially useful as a guide catheter or micro catheter and may be used in a variety of therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. In particular, it has value in treating neurovascular embolic strokes in combination with other devices which are delivered to the stroke site through that working lumen. The remainder of the lumens typically are used to inflate and to deflate the balloon.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 9, 2013Publication date: April 17, 2014Applicant: CONCENTRIC MEDICAL, INC.Inventors: John Miller, Martin Dieck, Maria Aboytes, Ryan K.
