Patent number: 9210589Abstract: A protocol for providing location-based communication services in wireless sensor networks utilizes dynamic selection of forwarding devices, dynamic forwarding decisions, and intelligent backoff. Dynamic selection of forwarding devices limits the number of transmissions by dynamically selecting the devices that forward a message. Dynamic forwarding decisions implement different heuristics for different devices. According to intelligent backoff, devices that are closer to a destination region backoff for a shorter period of time than those which are further away from the destination region.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 2012Date of Patent: December 8, 2015Assignee: AT&T Intellectual Property I, L.P.Inventors: Rajesh Krishna Panta, Joshua Marc Auzins, Maria F. Fernandez, Robert J. Hall

Patent number: 8549006Abstract: A method of searching a document having nested-structure document-specific markup (such as Extensible Markup Language (XML)) involves 112 receiving a query that designates at least (A) a phrase to be matched in a phrase matching process, and (B) a selective designation of at least a tag or annotation that is to be ignored during the phrase matching process. The method further involves 114 deriving query-specific indices based on query-independent indices that were created specific to each document, and 116 carrying out the phrase matching process using the query-specific indices on the document having the nested-structure document-specific markup.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 2008Date of Patent: October 1, 2013Assignee: AT&T Intellectual Property I, L.P.Inventors: Sihem Amer-Yahia, Maria F. Fernandez, Divesh Srivastava, Yu Xu

Publication number: 20120179840Abstract: A distributed transformation network provides delivery of content from a content publisher to a content recipient. Content from the content publisher is received at an entry node of the distributed transformation network and transmitted to a transformation node in the distributed transformation network. The content is transformed according to publisher, recipient or network administrator specifications and transmitting to delivery nodes which deliver the transformed content to the content recipient. The published content may be in an XML-based format and transformed into an XML-related format or any other structured language format as desired in the provided specification.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 26, 2012Publication date: July 12, 2012Applicant: AT&T Intellectual Property II, L.P.Inventors: David Gerald Belanger, Steven Michael Bellovin, Maria F. Fernandez, Robert J. Hall, Charles Robert Kalmanek, JR., Divesh Srivastava, Kathleen McKenna

Patent number: 6785673Abstract: A method for converting relational data to XML (eXtensible Markup Language) is provided. The method can use a greedy algorithm to efficiently construct materialized XML views of relational databases. A greedy algorithm designed for XML view definition queries is provided for decomposing a large query into smaller queries and determining which query will run faster without actually running the query.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 2001Date of Patent: August 31, 2004Assignee: AT&T Corp.Inventors: Maria F. Fernandez, Atsuyuki Morishima, Dan Suciu, Wang-Chiew Tan

Patent number: 6604100Abstract: A method for converting relational data to XML (Extensible Markup Language) is provided. The method, sometimes referred to as SilkRoute, provides a general, dynamic and efficient tool for viewing and querying relational data in XML. SilkRoute can express mappings of relational data in XML that conforms to arbitrary public document type definitions. Also, SilkRoute can materialize the fragment of an XML view needed by an application and it can fully exploit the query engine of a relational database management system whenever data items in an XML view need to be materialized.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 2001Date of Patent: August 5, 2003Assignee: AT&T Corp.Inventors: Maria F. Fernandez, Dan Suciu, Wang-Chiew Tan

Patent number: 6052686Abstract: An apparatus and method for efficiently processing a database. A structure of the database is constructed into a schema which only includes those structures of the database that are known. Desired information to be extracted from the database is specified using path expressions and an automaton models the path expression. A composite automaton is generated based on the automaton and the schema. The composite automaton is pruned and portions of the database corresponding to the pruned automaton is searched to obtain the desired information. Points within the database may be identified to begin searching for the desired information. These points correspond to states of the composite automaton. A hybrid automaton may be formed for each set of possible starting states to determine completeness by simulating the hybrid automaton against the composite automaton.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 1997Date of Patent: April 18, 2000Assignee: AT&T CorporationInventors: Maria F. Patent number: 5956720Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing a web-site. An information definition query is received for defining an integrated view of non-uniform information retrieved from a multiple sources across a network, and stored in multiple formats. An integrated view is created according to the information definition query. A site definition query is received for defining a site view for the non-uniform information at the web-site. The site view is created according to the site definition query. The non-uniform information is then presented on the web-site, typically in the form of a HTML document.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 1997Date of Patent: September 21, 1999Assignee: AT & T CorpInventors: Maria F.
